To ensure that the dishes after the machine are clean and that no resources are wasted, simple rules need to be understood.
How to place your dishes?
The most difficult and sturdiest dishes are placed in the bottom basket of the machine-frying pans, saucepans, lids, meat grinders and mixers
The central part is designed for bowls, pots, which are placed, slightly tilted, upside down.
Plates, fragile items and small objects are placed in the upper basket. Cups and glasses are placed on holders, also upside down.
Place serving knives, forks and parts from collapsible kitchen appliances in a special container, pointing downward. If an item does not fit in the compartment, it is placed across the top basket e.g. ladles.
Place flat trays and covers on either side of the basket.
If the dishes are very dirty, they are not put in every dishwasher rack, but in every dishwasher rack.
Place the glassware at a distance from each other so that it is not damaged by the vibrations produced by the machine.
To wash the tray, remove the upper basket and install a special sprayer, which is not always sold in the kit.
Before switching the appliance on, check that the position of the dishes does not obstruct the circulation of water and the dripping and rotation of the spray arms.
To save on washing up, all fresh and dried food residues are removed first, and burnt food is brushed off the pans and pans.
It is important to use the correct detergents
Dishwasher gels and powders are not suitable for hand washing. They create foam, which leads to an emergency stop, and then you have to call the service center. For the same reason, dishes that have been washed by hand should be thoroughly rinsed before they are loaded into the dishwasher.

Soften the water to avoid white streaks on the dishes. This is the purpose of the regenerating salt mentioned above. The product prevents lime scale on the heating elements of the washer.
It is needed to prolong the life of the mechanism, to preserve the quality of washing of dishes and not to overuse the power. For example, periodically clean the filter of food remains, wash the baskets.
Rinse the dishwasher with degreaser after every use to wash away grease from the parts. At least every six months or every quarter remove limescale. To do this, start the machine without dishes, having previously poured into the inside of the antiscale, citric acid.
What else you shouldn’t wash in the dishwasher?

- Teflon-coated cookware. it does not need much effort to wash, because if used correctly food will not stick to the bottom of the pan or pot. Therefore, such dishes must be washed by hand with warm water, using a minimum amount of nonaggressive detergent. In the dishwasher, the Teflon coating quickly wears out due to the fairly intensive action, which leads to a significant reduction in the life of such dishes
- Vacuum cookware. plastic pots and containers with lids that allow air to be evacuated in order to preserve food for a long time. Plastic can become slightly deformed because of the very hot water in an automatic washer. And although these changes are practically imperceptible to the human eye, the lid will no longer fit snugly on the sides, so you will lose the hermetic sealing of the dishes.
Thermoses and thermos flasks can only be washed in the automatic mode if the manufacturer has specified this option. Otherwise, you have to wash them with your hands.
Can I wash ceramic dishes in the dishwasher?
When buying a dishwasher for the first time, the future owner often has no idea what kind of dishes you can’t wash in a dishwasher. Crystal is best washed by hand and wiped down immediately with a waffle towel.
- You can’t wash silver in a dishwasher like the Bosch. Expensive silver cutlery in general does not come into contact with cutlery made of other kinds of metal. The thing is that water partially dissolves any metal. It happens at a molecular level. People will not feel it, but the silver spoons will immediately darken or be covered with an unpleasant deposit. Chemical cleaning will also have to be performed. Do not wash silverware in the PPM.
- Decorative objects (whatever the purpose). Any decorative objects are not originally designed for habitual use. That is why wear-resistant materials are not used in their manufacture. Therefore, washing them in the dishwasher can ruin them.
- It is forbidden to wash the thermos in the dishwasher. The thermos is of capricious design and if its insulation gets wet, the thermos will deteriorate. You should only wash it by hand.
- Kitchen knives do not tolerate automatic washing and prolonged exposure to high temperatures. If you need to disinfect the knife, it is better to pour plenty of boiling water from a kettle or use a disinfectant. But don’t put it in the dishwasher, such as Bosch.
- Nonstick, ceramic-coated pans such as Tefal pans should not be washed in the dishwasher! Otherwise, you run the risk of damaging the pans, the coating will eventually thin out, or it may start to creep. Many people complain: “I washed a Tefal pan in the dishwasher, and now everything sticks to the bottom!”
- Cast-iron pans, cast-iron cookware, and cast-iron grates must be washed by hand. Cast iron loses its appearance in the dishwasher and may begin to rust. If the pan is rusty it will rust all the time. Cast iron tends to get a thin film of grease from food. It keeps it that way. This film cannot be washed off by hand, but the dishwasher will remove it easily and the cast iron surface will remain unprotected after the dishwasher.
- Do not wash aluminum cookware in the dishwasher. Aluminum pots and milk pans can be covered with a white, unpleasant residue.
- The knives and mesh of the meat grinder can begin to rust after being in the dishwasher. After the first wash, white knives from the meat grinder will immediately become black (this is oxidation). Don’t be surprised. That the meat grinder or duckbill has turned black. The blackened mincer will have to be cleaned with abrasive afterwards.
- Unsightly dark spots appear on copper after automatic washing. Gradually so will darken the entire surface of the product. That too is oxidation and can only be removed by polishing.
- It is strictly forbidden to wash the reservoirs of the multicooker in the dishwasher. The detergent and hot water can damage the coating of the inner cavity and render the part unusable.
- Baking trays are bad for the machine’s drains and filters. If the tray itself isn’t damaged, the dishwasher itself is.
- Various strainers, graters, and other small items should not be washed in the machine. The dirt is not washed out of them, and the sharpened elements of the grater are dulled.
- Faor and bone faor with gold-plated inserts can be damaged. Gold-plated elements are tarnished by automatic washing and are washed out later.
What you can’t wash in the dishwasher
While dishwashers disinfect dishes more effectively than cleaning by hand, the appliance has its own limitations. Sometimes even the most powerful machines cannot remove dried-on food residues, so you must either wash the item manually or put it through another cycle.
Also, not all can be loaded in the dishwasher. Fine faor and crystal, knives, non-stick pots and pans, and wooden objects can be damaged, which means you have to clean them by hand. If you are hosting a party and using your best dishes, it may take extra time to clean. Because if you don’t load the dishwasher correctly, not only will the dishes not get clean, but they can get damaged.
You need to remove excess food scraps from the dishes before loading them into the appliance. Because there is a chance that it will remain inside the appliance.
Cookware made of any metal (except stainless steel)
Unless the manufacturer specifically states that the item is dishwasher safe, do not put non-stick coated cookware in the automatic dishwasher. Over time, the process of cleaning dishes can destroy the coating, cause it to peel off during cooking and ruin the nonstick coating of the pan or pot.
Cleaning agents make the surface vulnerable to rust. No cast iron should go in the dishwasher. Water and non-abrasive sponges are the best cleaning agents. Take care of cast iron cookware, which can last for years.
Brass, bronze, or tin can stain or discolor in the dishwasher. Take care of these metals by hand to maintain their beauty. Do not wash aluminium tableware in the dishwasher. Hot water can ruin the surface, making it dull.
Surprisingly, most porcelain dishes can be washed in the dishwasher. But if the object has metallic images or finishes on it, wash it by hand so as not to damage the decorations. Also, the faor can crack if it accidentally bumps into other dishes during the dishwashing cycle, so load the dishwasher carefully.
Wooden and plastic utensils
Hot water can deform wood or damage the finish on wooden cutting boards and dishes with wooden handles. Hand cleaning is recommended.
If plastic objects are not marked as “dishwasher safe”, do not put them in the appliance. Items marked “dishwasher-safe” should only be placed on the top shelf. Otherwise, the heating element could melt or deform them.
Hot water can damage acrylic plates, causing cracks in the surface. Only allow them to be cleaned by hand.
Knives, strainers, and garlic peelers
Do not wash the knives in the dishwasher, it can dull the blades. Even if the manufacturer’s instructions say that you can put knives in the appliance, you may cut yourself by dipping and removing sharp objects, so it is best to wash them by hand.
Also, any sharp-edged items such as strainers and grates can damage the plastic coating of the dishwasher basket and container and rusting will be a matter of time.
Items with small openings, such as a garlic press, are useless to clean in the dishwasher because the jets of water do not get inside and do not wash away food debris.
Thermos and crystalware
Fragile items such as hand-blown glass, antiques and figurines should be kept out of the washing machine. If it’s priceless or a family heirloom, wash it by hand. Washing crystal in the dishwasher is also not safe for the product.
The problem with ceramic items is that sometimes the combination of cold food, rapid heat and its flat shape creates uneven heat distribution and the dishes can crack. This applies to most ceramic dishes.

Crystal and Faure

The dishwasher detergent is the reason why silverware can “not survive” in the dishwasher. Pills and powders contain a large number of ingredients that react with the metal. As a result. In theory the knives are quite tolerant of PM procedures. In practice, be prepared to re-sharpen them each time, because the knives dull after washing. This also applies to cutters and any other food cutting equipment. They can not only get blunt, but also scratch the inner walls of the PM. Especially since washing in the PM will not have the expected effect. Small dents and crevices leave behind food particles which are best removed by hand.
Sending a thermos into the dishwasher is the same as throwing it in the trash. You will not only spoil the insulating material, but also get an unpleasant “aroma” from stale water.
Never send pots and pans with a thick layer of grease or burnt food to the dishwasher. First, the dishes will not wash out, and secondly, the drain of the dishwasher will clog.
So, if you do not want to stay without kitchen utensils, do NOT send to the PM:
- Wooden spatulas, cutting boards, spoons, hotplate
- Plastic dishes which are not designed to be reusable
- cast iron, copper, aluminum, and silverware
- Frying pots and pans with anti-gravel coating
- Crystal and faora without the glaze
- Thermoses and pots for the multicooker
- Scrapers, garlic grinders, knives
What to do if you wash the meat grinder in the dishwasher?
It is undesirable to send the meat grinder to the dishwasher, especially if you are not sure what metals it is made of. But if you’ve already made that mistake and your meat grinder turns black, don’t worry. The old tried-and-true baking soda comes to the rescue. Cutlery will be hopelessly ruined if it is made of:

An overview of “banned” materials
Pots, pans, spoons, mugs, cauldron, hood filter, grill grate made of aluminum alloy under the influence of high temperatures, dishwashing aggressive powders (tablets) acquire an unpleasant dark grayish color, staining hands, countertop, all around. Melchior is most commonly used to make exquisite cutlery that resembles silverware: spoons, forks, and knives. Washing in the dishwasher is strictly prohibited. They oxidize from hot water and powders and become covered by black stains.

Good-quality Soviet crystal perfectly withstands any regime, but choose a special dishwasher detergent. Carefully read the specific dishwasher detergent instructions before deciding which one is right for your dishes. Modern very fine crystal glasses are dangerous to wash in the dishwasher. They can break from vibration, high water pressure. Delicate glasses can be loaded into the washing machine only if the model is equipped with special holders and a gentle mode (e.g. ” Bosch”).
The holders will not let the glasses touch during oscillation. The pressure of the impeller jets in the delicate mode is much softer than in the normal mode.
Wood products from humidity, chemistry, high temperature deform, delaminate, and swell. Never put wooden planks, spoons, spatulas, mortars and pestles in the washer-dryer.
Some plastic containers, fridge shelves, children’s toys and other plastic items are sensitive to high temperatures, detergents and hot dryer air. That is why always look for the labeling that allows washing in a dishwasher. If there is no sign saying so, it is better not to take the risk. This also applies to thermos and thermos mugs. In order to properly organize the washing, you should read the instructions, if there is a sign “do not wash”, it means that the bulb, the surface of the product is not compatible with the washing machine.
Do not put enameled dishes in the automatic washer and dryer under any circumstances. Enamel from automatic cleaning breaks, flakes, metal rusts. Any enameled pots, bowls, kettles and ladles will be discarded after this procedure.
Blender, electric kettle, steam cooker (the container from the steam cooker), Zepter appliances with electronic elements. are spoiled by the large amount of liquid. Many people worry about the question, whether you can wash an aquarium in the machine. Manufacturers of aquariums do not recommend such experiments because the glass may break.
