DEFA heater installation
Half a year ago bought a heater DEFA 411122. I had some free time on vacation and decided to do it myself. Bought only the heater (3600) without cable. If the cable branded at once the price is 2300 I decided to make a cable myself.

Before pouring the antifreeze out don’t forget to unscrew the screw which is located over the thermostat. it will let the air out. Pour the antifreeze slowly, less than 1 liter per minute to let the air out.

HEATERS WITH A T-BOLT OR EXPANDING BRACKET
Serial number from 300 to 399. The flange is cylindrical in various lengths. Seal between heater flange and cylinder block wall with a rubber ring or rubber gasket. Heater is secured to the cylinder block with a T-bolt (expander clamp) that rests against the inside of the cylinder block. Fortunately, the imagination of the Russian people knows no boundaries, and so someone made a fire under the car, someone poured boiling water on the intake manifold, and someone stuck under the crankcase electric stove. By the way, the latter method has something in common with electric engine and cabin heating systems, one of which we will get closely acquainted with in this material.

If the engine has not been started in due time, the delay function is activated, after which the heating is prolonged for two more hours, after which the system is switched off. The sensor of ice has pleasantly surprised. If the vehicle enters an area where the temperature drops below 4 °C or rises above 4 °C, the system switches off.4 ° C, then the display and button lighting starts flashing for 6 seconds, this feature has checked in person. it works.
INSTALLATION of DEFA preheater with your own hands or car service
In our case, as the test was a Nissan Micra, which was mounted a complete set of heaters DEFA Warm Up. Installation of the system was carried out in a specialized technical center, which is due to the peculiarities of the electric thermocouple installation. Before mounting the system the specialists find out the exact model and year of manufacture of the engine. If it is not possible to put the heater directly on the cylinder block because of the very tight arrangement, a universal element is installed in the cut of the cooling system hoses. The next step in the process of mounting the engine preheater was to install a special socket Mini Plug to power the system: this process does not take much time, as to fix it only need to drill a small hole in the left middle part of the front bumper. After the above-described operation the question arose: where to install the sensor of external temperature? It is needed to activate the engine block heater when the ambient temperature reaches the level you specify. After some deliberation it was decided to mount it in the inner cavity of the front bumper. away from the dirt and vandals. The last stage of work in the underhood space was the installation of the battery charging unit, which was mounted on the left cup of the shock absorber rack next to the battery. After we have finished with the underhood space, the whole front of work has shifted to the interior of the car, where it was necessary to install the control unit and heater. The first expert “have determined” for permanent residence a block which, by the way, has a pleasant enough orange illumination (it has been glued on the double-sided adhesive tape on the left side of a dashboard). Then they have started to install the heater which purpose is clear without additional explanations. In our case, the unit was selected maximum capacity of 1400 watts with the ability to work in 800-watt mode with a ceramic heater, as the car seems to be a small, but for the more heat-loving motorists, there is a 2000-watt. By common efforts we managed to find a place for it as well, we put it under the glove box on the passenger side. It should be said that the heater is removable (only a small holding bracket is permanently mounted), and in addition, it has a regular plug and can be used independently, for example, for heating a garage. The last point in the modernization of the salon is the installation of a power outlet for the above-described heater, which is “sheltered” from the left bottom side of the dashboard. After installing all the modules, it was necessary to wire the cabin and connect all the electrical circuits together using the technological holes in the engine panel. Completed all the operations, the car was poured back in the salts, then we heated the engine until the thermostat was triggered to remove the steam plugs. If you do not do this operation, the heating element can be in the air space, overheat and fail. In principle, the installation of this system with an electric engine preheater can be done with your own hands, but it is better to trust the experts. Note: Installation of a complete set with engine heating in the service center will take you from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the internal layout of the underhood and from 50 to 350 euros. In our opinion, you should pay attention to this system first of all for people who have an electrified garage, a private home, as well as for companies with their own fleet of cars located in a cold garage or in the open air.
