Review dehydrator (dryer) for fruit and vegetables Kitfort KT-1912

Home dehydrators (dryers) for fruits and vegetables are often included in our reviews. And although most of these devices are plus or minus the same in their functionality, the difference between them can be very noticeable.

The hero of our today’s review is the Kitfort KT-1912 dehydrator, which is notable for its compact size and predictably small (but not the smallest either) capacity. Let’s see how well it can cope with the standard tasks.

The dehydrator comes in a cardboard box, decorated in Kitfort style: combination of black and purple colors, vector image of the device, brief description of its main features and characteristics, and the original slogan “I’m drying for you, no more?

The dimensions of the box are not big, and it does not weigh much. No handle for carrying the device is needed, of course not. The contents were packed in plastic bags.

At a glance

Visually, the dryer gives the impression of a quality device from the category slightly above average. There are several reasons for that: the stylish design and the use of metal in the design of the case.

To tell you the truth, the metal strip, which covers the bottom of the case, had a couple of minor dents in our copy. The defect? Damage sustained in transit? Unknown. But we can say that the device should be handled with care, and this refers not only to plastic, but also to metal parts.

Overall, the construction of the dryer was standard. Let’s have a closer look at the appliance.

On the bottom of the plastic case you can see the rubber feet, ventilation holes and an information sticker. There is no compartment to store excess cord. The case itself is made of black glossy plastic and partially covered with a metal plate. Both the body and the metal are very dirty, the dryer collects fingerprints very easily.

You can see the protective fungus from above, from under which the hot air comes out. We should note that in our device it was fixed crookedly, which (theoretically) can affect the uniformity of drying. Under the fungus there is a fan and a heating element.

On the side of the case there is a control panel with on/off button, LED and temperature regulator.

It is worth to note, that the body legs are shaped for easy taking the dryer from below, lifting it together with the pallets and moving it to another place.

The trays of our dryer are rectangular in shape and made of transparent food-grade plastic. The design of the trays means that they are assembled into a single structure when put on top of each other.

The corners of the trays are rounded. In the center there is a ventilation hole, on the sides there are handles that allow you to take any number of trays at once.

The lid of the dryer is made of black (this time it is matte) plastic. The lid (as well as trays) has side handles. On the top you can see a row of holes for the warm air outlet and the Dehydrator sign.

The instructions for our dryer is a 10-page A5 size brochure with two-color printing, printed on high quality glossy paper.

The text is of Kitfort usual quality: easy to read, it’s all there, no unnecessary digressions and multiple page warnings.

The advice and recommendations section in our case was more than adequate: it contains very useful hints on how to prepare the food for drying, and at what temperature and for how long to dry it for the best result.

The control

The control panel of the dryer consists of a power button, an operating indicator and a mechanical regulator, which allows you to set the temperature between 35 and 70 C. In our opinion, the operation of the device is intuitive and does not require any explanation.

It is necessary to understand that the same temperature on all levels can not be expected: the heating comes from the bottom, and therefore the lower trays will dry faster than the upper ones.

Before the first use, the manufacturer recommends washing the trays and wiping the body of the dryer with a damp cloth.

When choosing a place for installation of the device it is necessary to provide free space at the back and top of the dryer (minimum 20 cm), as well as on the sides (minimum 10 cm) for free circulation of air.

According to the developer’s recommendations, no more than 3.5 kg of raw materials should be put into the dryer, and the operating time of the device should not exceed 72 hours (after which you need to take a break for 1 hour).

The general rules of operation are standard for vertical dehydrators:

  • We cut products into pieces of suitable size (the smaller, the faster they will dry out, but here we must not overdo it, so that dry products do not fall through the grid of the pallet);
  • If the products to be dried are of different types, the wetter ones should be placed on the bottom (so that the juice does not drip on other types of products);
  • We put different types of food on different trays;
  • We use a low temperature at the beginning of the drying process and then gradually increasing it (so that fresh foods are not boiled due to the high temperature);
  • Since hot air is supplied from the bottom up, the food on the bottom trays will dry faster, so from time to time (at least once) you need to change the trays places, and more humid products should be placed on the bottom trays;
  • Dry food should not be stored until it has cooled down.

Let us note only one point of concern: it is no secret that some types of transparent food plastic lose their strength over time. We have seen dehydrators whose trays have fallen out of use after a couple of years. Unfortunately, it is not possible to find out in advance whether plastic is susceptible to such drying. You only have to do it at your own risk.

Here everything is elementary. In operation it turned out that the trays practically do not get dirty, and slight contamination can be easily washed away with warm soapy water. As a last resort, you can soak the pallets for a while beforehand.

There is also no problem at all with removing the particles of dried foods from the housing: simply turn the housing upside down to remove all the crumbs. If the food somehow got under the protective mushroom, then there is nothing wrong: use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the mushroom, and then you can access the heating element.

Our measurements

Tray length 31.5 cm, width 24.5 cm. The usable area of one pallet, according to our calculations, is about 0.064 m². The total usable area of the entire unit is therefore about 0.32 m².

What it means in practice? Our measurements showed that one pallet can hold about 400 g of carrots, 280 g of onions, 380 g of bananas and about the same weight of apples. The total capacity of the dryer, therefore, hardly exceeds 2 kg of vegetables/fruits.

A word or two about the different temperature settings. We were primarily interested in the temperature difference between the top and bottom tray. It turned out to be quite significant (which means that we have to switch trays).

So, for example, at a set temperature of 55 C, the air in the bottom tray heated to 52 C and the top one only to 40 C. When increasing the temperature to 60 C measurements showed 56 C and 44 C respectively.

What was a pleasant surprise to us was the low power consumption of the device. At 260 W maximum power and a set temperature of 55 C appliance managed to consume less than a kilowatt of 0.72 kW in 24 hours·h power. At the set temperature of 60 C 1 kW·h was used up in 18 hours of operation of the dryer. It is clear that these measurements are not very accurate, however, they generally give an idea of the capabilities of the device: we would hardly spend more than 2 kW for one full load of the dryer·h electricity.

Dried herbs (onions and dill)

We put the mixture of green onions and dill into the trays, and then started the dryer in mode 45 C.

Dill, as we expected, dried out after 8 hours, and onions took another 5-6 hours to get rid of all traces of moisture. To speed up the process, we switched the trays once in the middle of the process and slightly increased the temperature (up to 55 C).

At the end of the time we were completely satisfied with the result: the herbs dried completely (including the dill stems, which predictably took the longest time).

Dried apples

According to the instructions, the apples should be sliced into 0.7 cm thick slices, and then dried at a temperature of 55 C 8-16 hours. Well, let’s try to follow the instructions.

We prepared the apples (we decided not to cut out the core with pips), and left the pieces quite large. We set the temperature to 55 degrees, the timer to 16 hours. At the end of the drying process, we found almost dried apples, which, however, seemed to us damp in order to put them away for long-term storage.

So we swapped the trays again and dried the apples for another 5 hours, after which we finally got the desired result. dry but pliable pieces of apples, which can be chewed instead of chewed.

Dried bananas

The instructions recommend drying bananas in 0.3 cm slices. This time, we decided to roughly violate the instructions and slice bananas much larger, 0.7 to 1 cm thick, and see what happens (we really wanted to dry a lot of food at once).

The manual advised to dry bananas at 55 degrees for 10-16 hours, we originally expect for 24 hours, and we were right: they were ready in 25 hours. It is through this time that they have reached a state perfect for eating them with tea, adding them to porridge or oatmeal.

Root vegetables (carrots and onions)

We cut the carrots in rings about 0.5 cm thick, the onions also in rings, filling all the trays.

We set the thermometer to 65 degrees and prepared to wait for 7-10 hours.

The carrots were ready in 10 hours, the onions we gave another 3-4 hours. Since we were not planning to use the vegetables in the near future, then (for the sake of reliability) we dried them a couple more hours, and then put them into ziploc bags, which prevented access to air.

Such preparations can be easily and easily used in soups or other dishes. They are also ideal for taking them on hikes and multi-day trips to the countryside.

Dryer KT-1912 differs from its counterparts compact and low power. The capacity of the device is about 2 kg of raw materials, so for the processing of autumn crops such a dryer is unlikely to be suitable. But it is quite capable of coping with simple everyday tasks.

We were especially delighted by the low power consumption: the appliance is likely to consume about 1-1.5 kW to dry one full load·That in money terms will be incommensurably small compared to the price of raw materials.

We were upset by the absence of a timer; however, our experience in operating such devices has shown that it is better not to leave dried food for a long time (in this case it will start to take moisture from the air again). However, for more than three thousand, we would have expected to see at least the simplest automatic shutdown mechanism (timer).

Well, of course, no one cancelled the need to change the pallets from time to time, it is a feature of all vertical dehumidifiers, and our dryer KT-1912 was no exception.

Kitfort KT-1911 dehydrator review: dries quickly and in plenty of time

The variety of household appliances and good price policy makes Kitfort a favorite brand for many users. At the moment we have a new dehydrator Kitfort, model KT-1911, in our test lab. I wonder what it will show in the tests

To put it simply: this is the time period in which official service centers deliver parts to repair the unit. After this period, any repair in the official SC (both warranty and charge) is unlikely.

The dryer arrived for the test in a large black cardboard box without handles. On the box we see all the necessary information about the device, its specifications, name and a schematic drawing of the model, as well as another advertising slogan Kitfort specifically for this device.

  • dryer;
  • 6 basic stainless steel grids;
  • 6 polypropylene trays for liquid foods;
  • 6 polypropylene grids with a fine mesh;
  • instructions;
  • promotional print.

The unit is well packed and protected by foam inserts to protect it from trouble during transportation.

At a glance

KT-1911 dryer is an impressive rectangular appliance of laconic modern design. Black display with bright blue LEDs. Large glass door lets you see what is going on inside. A minimal amount of plastic only on the feet and handles for easy carrying. The door closes with two magnetic latches.

Inside the unit there is a massive metal fan protected by a grid and on the side there are 6 rails for the trays. The distance between the trays is not adjustable and is 3.6 cm. No superfluous elements and ill-conceived fasteners all arranged for the most convenient maintenance of the device.

On the side, there are carrying handles and a number of ventilation holes.

On the back we see the screws for fixing the fan motor, a number of holes for ventilation, the power cord and a tag with the model number and specifications.

Dryer stands on four rubberized feet with small suction cups.

The following 18 trays are included in the package. 6 stainless steel baskets in chrome-plated stainless steel. The trays are made of thick wire and can carry a substantial load. Their surface is designed so as to minimize contact with the food lying on them.

6 trays for marshmallows and other liquid foods are made of polypropylene. These pallets are stacked on top of the main grids.

6 fine-mesh polypropylene trays are designed for drying small items and herbs. They are stacked on top of the main stainless ones.

Sufficient for drying all types of food.

KT-1911 manual is an A5 size brochure on 11 pages of glossy paper. All you need to know to use the appliance is described in detail. This is general information, equipment, device, drying tips and recommendations, specifications, precautions, as well as cleaning, maintenance, care and preparation of this device.

As always with Kitfort, everything is structured and written in a concise and clear language, so that after a single reading there are no questions.

The control panel of the appliance consists of a time timer and four touch keys:. −, timer/temperature and on.

The drying mode is set by default to 10 hours, 70 C. keys and − can be changed from 30 minutes to 24 hours in 30-minute increments and from 35 to 75 C in 5 degree steps. When changing the settings, you have to wait for 3 seconds to fix the value. During operation, the timer on the display shows the time remaining. When the drying process is complete, the dryer beeps five times and the display shows the end. Operation of the device is simple and intuitive. The touch keys are sensitive enough to be pressed even with a wet hand.

Before the first use, the manufacturer recommends washing all the trays and grids, and wiping the body outside and inside with a damp cloth. That’s how we did it. The dryer must be positioned on a flat surface, leaving at least 20 cm free at the back and top and at least 10 cm on the sides for the air to circulate freely. To put a drip tray inside the chamber to prevent excessive humidity from dripping onto the bottom of the dryer.

The first time we started it, we did not notice any technical smells. The body of the dryer gets warm during the operation, but not very much, so that you can’t get burnt on it. The fan runs quietly enough, after a while you do not notice that the device is on. There’s no vibration or buzzing noise.

During the tests, we dried watery fruits, apples, bananas, herbs, mushrooms, meat, breadcrumbs, marshmallows, nuts after cooking, icing, noodles, cans, and defrosting foods. On this basis, we can note the following points:

The food dries up really fast. It took us less than 8 hours to dry 6 trays of banana chips and less than 20 hours for the apricot marshmallows.

Everything dries fairly evenly. We did not rearrange the trays of marshmallow, and they dried simultaneously and evenly within the tray. The marshmallow layer need not be varied in thickness.

The stainless steel trays are designed so that contact with the lying product is minimal, and due to the chrome coating even dried fruit can be easily removed from the grid.

Polypropylene trays deform from hot (above 90 C) products, when cooled, take their original shape. For better retention of the marshmallows, you should oil them.

Although the manufacturer says that the smells inside the chamber do not mix, you should not dry meat and garlic at the same time with oranges. The combination of products inside the racks must be done judiciously.

Taking care of the KT-1911 is extremely easy. The body can be wiped down with a damp cloth, and the trays are allowed to be washed in the dishwasher. If there is food left over on the drip tray, it should be previously soaked in warm water. Do not use aggressive and abrasive agents.

Our measurements

In 4 days and 19 hours of operation (115 hours), the dryer consumed 44.1 kW·h electricity. The maximum power recorded by the device was 620 W, which is within the declared limits.

Noise level during operation is estimated by us as minimal.

The internal temperature is kept slightly lower than the set temperature, at 75 C the walls heated to 65 degrees and the pallets to 72 C.

When setting the maximum temperature for a long time, the outside of the housing heats up the most at the back, we recorded 65 C point. The front heats the metal sides of the door, to about 55 C, the temperature on the sides and the top of the dryer is considerably lower. Values may vary due to temperature differences in the room.

Practical tests

This model could well be used for cooking yoghurt, defrosting foods or pasteurizing milk, but in practical tests we would like to focus primarily on those dishes that would be difficult to make without the dryer. So we are going to tell you about:

  • Making natural chips from different fruits;
  • Provencal calisson cakes made from dried almonds and candied fruit;
  • preparation of thin pastilles from apricots (apricots);
  • dried spicy beef with cognac.

Exotic Fruit Mix

To make healthy natural fruit chips, we took medium ripe bananas, mangoes, pears, oranges, and lychees.

Peeled from the skins and placed on stainless steel trays in a single row without pre-treatment. Filled all 6 trays and put in the dryer for 10 hours at 55 degrees

Bananas dried the fastest, oranges took the longest to dry because they were cut into thick slices. They took about 16 hours.

The fruit mix for snacking is ready with minimal effort. Chips of such drying in sealed jars can be stored for about a year and used not only as healthy snacks, but also to decorate desserts and cocktails. Grinding them in a blender produces a fruit powder the base of healthy candies and a natural flavoring for baking.

Provence Cake Calissons

For the Provençal Calissons we needed almonds, candied oranges, powdered sugar, an egg and a thin waffle.

We peeled almonds boiled for two minutes in boiling water and dried them on a fine-mesh tray for two hours at 60 degrees. After grinding it into flour, adding a few bitter almonds.

We made candied orange peels, dried them for a couple of hours and ground them in a blender along with the candied melon peels into a smooth paste. We mixed the almond flour with the candied fruit mass and formed the cakes in the shape of petals on a base of a thin waffle. Poured a royal icing of protein, powdered sugar and lemon juice on top. We put them on the fine-mesh trays to dry at 60 C until frosting is completely dry.

When making these pastries the drying chamber is replaced by an open-door oven if no such oven is available. But with this method there is always a risk of overheating the cakes, burning the waffle base, or spoiling the snow-white color of the white icing. With the use of a dryer, this risk is completely gone, and the process becomes not only controllable, but also somewhat authentic.

Apricot marshmallow

For the thin apricot marshmallow we used dried apricots and dried almonds.

The apricots were thoroughly washed and soaked for a day, and then crushed in a blender until a homogeneous mass. We boiled the mass for a few minutes with a little sugar syrup. Smoothed to taste by adding lemon juice, vanilla and spices, cooled. Spread out on marshmallow trays in an even layer. Put almonds on two pallets on top of the apricot mass. We put all 6 trays on the main stainless steel trays in the dryer, setting 70 C for 24 hours.

The marshmallow dried a little early and almost simultaneously on all trays. We were surprised and very pleased by the uniformity.

Spicy beef jerky

For the jerky, we took lean machete steak beef from a trusted supplier, garlic, black and sweet-scented pepper, wild rosemary, sea salt, and the best cognac, which is not sorry. Sliced meat across the fibers, salted with spices, poured cognac and stood in a cold place for about 10 days stirring daily.

We put it on the racks, put it in the dryer for 16 hours at 70 C.

In this case, the consistency of jerk depends on the time, it is important not to overdo it in the dryer, otherwise they will become quite dry and brittle. After a few hours, you have to adjust the time.

We really liked the dryer KT-1911. First, by their design. Such a device will fit in almost any kitchen interior, rectangular shape makes it easy to place and store.

Second, the consistency of the stated temperature and power readings.

Thirdly, the uniformity and speed of drying. And, of course, it is worth noting the convenience and ease of maintenance, and this in such devices is not unimportant.

We can safely recommend this model to fans of natural snacks, because of its technical advantages it reduces labor costs for their preparation to a minimum.

Review of Kitfort KT-1902 dehydrator for vegetables and fruits: for any food that doesn’t escape through the grid

Today we are going to discuss dehydrator by Kitfort company, or as the manufacturer calls it, fruit and vegetable dryer named KT-1902. The device is relatively small, obviously aimed not at seasonal preserves, but at experimental recipes of city dwellers. Despite the name, the device is also suitable for cooking meat, fish, herbs, and if you want to get fancy with accessories can be added to this list and liquid products: marshmallow, yogurt, dough.

Complete set

Traditionally bright and laconic box with a whale, this time turned out to be green. The picture makes the appliance look more massive than it really is, since the transparent plastic obscures its size. The sides contain the basic technical information and the features of the device, while the bottom side shows the contacts of the importer and the address of the production, as well as the warranty period and the service life.

Inside the box we find a complete dehydrator, a manual and a warranty card. A polyethylene bag played the role of protective packaging, but the device does not dangle in the box without cardboard inserts either. Ideally, it would be good to have flexible baking sheets for liquid foods, such as marshmallows.

At a glance

The dehydrator looks nice: white body combined with a soft green one, transparent netted trays and a transparent lid make it look like a small device. And it is small in comparison with average dehydrators, there is no smell of industrial volumes.

But it is not so difficult to find a place in the kitchen, and colorful food on such a neutral background looks smart, almost festive. The lid is also transparent, with an oval handle that is mirrored by shiny chrome.

Under the trays we see a smooth green plastic base with a drip and fragment-proof fan.

There is a small display on the front of the base that shows in turn the remaining time and temperature. Around it are membrane control buttons all simple and minimalist.

The power cord is attached to the back of the base and is not hidden in the body of the appliance. The latter’s stability on the work surface is due to the four rubberized inserts on the four legs.

The manual briefly describes the purpose of the dehydrator, how to use and clean it, and lists safety precautions. As the device is easy to operate, the instructions are concise, and at the end of the A5 brochure the manufacturer showed some of his other products. Recommendations for the time and temperature of dehydration of different food was not found, but described the possibility of placing trays on top of each other with more or less distance for this purpose, just turn them 180.

After plugging in the unit is in standby mode and is activated by pressing Start/Stop button. This starts it up immediately with a default setting of 8 hours at 35°C C. To change them press the Time/C button. Each push of the button switches the parameters, the default setting is time first. e.g. to change the temperature, press the above-mentioned button once, and the red indicator on the right side of the display will light up under the sign C.

Then using buttons and − you can adjust the value to the desired one. The time is set in increments of 1 hour in the range from 1 to 72 hours (after the third day the device should have a well-deserved break of 1 hour). The temperature is set in the range 3570 C in increments of 5 C.

Before use we rinsed the trays with warm soapy water and wiped them dry. We wiped the body of the device with a slightly damp cloth, assembled it and plugged it in.

We like the fact that the dryer doesn’t require a lot of space in the kitchen. over, if necessary, it is possible to reduce its height in the assembly, as the trays can be placed at a greater or lesser distance from each other. You just need to turn each tray 180° and it’s easy to put it back; the lid also has two positions. We’ve gotten used to the Kitfort trays over the years and switching between them was no problem. As with other upright dehydrators, the food on the bottom trays is exposed more intensely because it is closer to the fan. We rotate the trays every 4 hours on average.

The transparent trays allow you to monitor the product’s readiness without lifting the lid, which is undoubtedly a plus. The mesh shape of the trays does not allow to dry finely chopped food, if such a need arises, you will have to buy special nets or ordinary gauze. For liquid foods, you will need special flexible plates, which are not included in the set.

The controls are intuitive, but we were not completely satisfied with the display. Given the standard height of a kitchen countertop, the dryer’s control panel is at waist level, and the top edge of the display is poorly visible. Consequently, in order to accurately know the current temperature and remaining time, you have to bend over and fully view the numbers.

We would attribute to the pluses of the device the fact that you can start the dryer only by setting the time. This insures forgetful customers from overcooking and overheating of the appliance.

The appliance is very easy to care for, and gets slightly dirtier with use. The trays can be washed in the dishwasher, and the housing is easily wiped clean with a damp cloth.

Our measurements

Power consumption during the heating stage was a maximum of 250 watts according to the wattmeter, which corresponds to the declared power. The device consumes about 17 W during the operation of the fan alone, but we are more interested in the values after prolonged operation:

  • per 1 hour of operation at a temperature of 70 C 0.21 kW·ч;
  • per 1 hour of operation at a temperature of 55 C 0.15 kW·ч;
  • in 1 hour of operation at a temperature of 40 C 0.07 kW·ч;
  • 60 for 15 hours of drying C the power consumption was 1,84 kW·ч.

The device is very quiet: according to our measurements it adds only 14 dB to the background noise of 32 dB (although this background is perceived as silence by the ear).

Practical tests

We decided to test the dryer not only on the fruits and vegetables mentioned in the name, but also on herbs, fish and poultry. According to the results, we can judge the breadth of application of this device:

Practice test

The vegetables chosen were tomatoes, carrots and onions. Mostly sliced in circles, although this reduced the capacity of the trays. On 1 tray fit 300 g of tomatoes, 1 large carrot weighing 135 g and 1 medium onion for 120 g, as well as a small bunch of parsley without chopping.

Everything dried well and at about the same speed as the other similar models. Onions and parsley took 9 hours at 50 C until ready. Carrots were dehydrated for 8 hours at 45 C and, though reduced in size, retained their flexibility. Tomatoes took the longest to dry: 16 hours at 60 C, and some pieces still resisted dehydration.

Practice Test

Candidates of apples, oranges, and bananas were selected and presented for drying. We cut the apples in slices with and without peel (as well as rings, but we didn’t have time to photograph them because of the overly appetizing result), the oranges in circles, the bananas in circles and strips.

One tray holds one medium apple weighing 120g or 180g banana slices or 260g banana strips or two raw oranges of 120g each or 150g of peeled orange.

Peeled apples were enough for 9 hours at 50 C, and their peeled counterparts as much as 11 hours with a temperature rise to 65 C. The bananas were ready in 16 hours at 55-60 C, and the oranges didn’t really give up until 22 hours from the start of the process.

The practical test

Dried fish can make a great home-cooked snack without the hassle. We take fillet of Pollack (in case we cut it from some hypermarkets we make a pitted fillet at home), cut it into pieces, improvise with marinade and leave it in the fridge for 24 hours. We used salt, pepper, paprika, soy sauce and a drop of vinegar. We had 410 g of Pollock on the tray.

Then we put the pieces on a tray (in our case there was nothing to blot, the marinade was not particularly liquid) and set the time and temperature to your liking. We chose 55 C and waited 16 hours and another 8 hours, which adds up to exactly 24 hours.

As a result, the fish was well dried without breaking on the bend. Taste was assessed by connoisseurs as ideal for light beer (photo taken after hours).

Practical test

Well marinated meat or poultry promises a tasty snack or nutritious camping product with minimal weight. We mixed soy sauce with garlic, honey, and mustard and dipped the chicken breast into a container and left it in the refrigerator for 24 hours. One breast sliced in small pieces fits on one tray.

After 7 hours at 65 C and 4 hours at 50 C breast became dry on the edges, a little soft in the center of thick slices and brittle on the thin parts. Fans of the marinade described above can imagine the bright, juicy taste of dry chicken (rarely is an oxymoron so successful).

The KT-1902 dryer made a positive impression on us. Neutral neat appearance, clear trays and lid are pleasing to the eye and make the appliance easier to handle. Any user can manage it and take care of it properly, so you can give it to grandmas, too. If space is limited, you can set the trays closer together, and if you have room, you can leave more air to circulate between them. The noise of the device is smooth, does not attract attention and does not interfere with other things.

Review: Electric dryer for fruit and vegetables Kitfort KT-1909. One of the best dryers for marshmallows.

Having my own garden, I often get big harvests of different fruits and berries, and of course there is the question: where to do it all and what to do with fruit? I’m tired of jam, compote, too, and if you make juices, where to dispose of the pulp? It’s a shame to compost or throw away. We have many gardeners who bury tons of fruit from their land into the ground without finding a use for it, because you can’t sell the excess in the market. our taxes on trade leave you with a loss, and you can preserve tons of it. for whom? Especially fruits are not always in perfect condition: there are worms and rotten. Now these problems no longer bother me: I bought a dryer for fruit and vegetables Kitfort KT-1909 and for the winter harvested from fruit only juice and marshmallow. Because this is quite enough: I squeezed the juice, and the pulp threw in a basin, briefly boiled and dried for marshmallow in the dryer. And the sugar goes a lot less than for jams and compotes, and less time is spent on canning, and the fruit is processed and eaten every single one, and without the rest!Here it is, my new dryer, which was ordered in Citilink:

Packed so conscientiously with thick foam inner plates that you could not fear for the plastic case. The color was not white, but light light gray:

How I wish I had bought one sooner! So much time before buying it was killed by standing at the stove and canning, so much fruit thrown away.

DESIGN:It’s simple, but not without flaws. The square plastic case, which is not smooth either outside or inside, but this kind of grooved:

These grooves do not interfere in any way, but still make it difficult to clean the body of the dryer from dust and dirt. The inside of the dryer will be especially difficult to clean; see how many protrusions and bumps there are:

On the top side of the dryer is the control panel and the air outlet holes:

The dryer has plastic shelves with large cells (there are only 9 of them):

There are also mesh trays. “inserts” to these shelves (they, too, 9 pieces):

And then there are 9 marshmallow trays! These trays are like little plastic trays, easy to clean and flexible (somewhat like the material that used to come in kapron buckets in Soviet times).

I demonstrate the depth of the marshmallow tray in the photo below:

The plastic trays are inserted into the main shelves:

The dryer door is not opening, but sliding. It’s this transparent (which is a big plus!), made of hard plastic, simply inserted into the grooves of the body, and very easily:

I categorically do not recommend dropping or bumping it, because it is very likely that it will crack (I had it fall on a wooden floor and there was a small crack near the handle, and in fact it could crack the whole door!):

The fact that the door slides out, not opens, is a huge advantage: to wash it, you simply remove it in a second, pulling it up, wash it and then put it back in again. This design and the way of removing the door is convenient because when you need to move the pallets or to make any manipulations with the products to be dried, the removed door will not interfere.My dryer dries horizontally, which is a big advantage over a vertical dryer! Because I can open the door at any time without disassembling the dryer or turning it off and do what I need, but vertical dryers (especially if they are not transparent) will need to be disassembled or even stop their work.Another plus in the design of the dryer is the square shape. This is undoubtedly a big advantage for me because the square appliances save more space in the kitchen than the round ones and they are also more roomy. The dryer has 4 small feet with a rubber base, so it does not slip on the surface at all:

And this is what the back panel looks like, which has the serial number on it:

The power cord is the optimum length of 1.2 meters with a plug for a grounded outlet.

It includes the dryer itself, very brief and clear instructions:

Also included are 27 trays of three types (9 liquid or marshmallow trays, 9 coarse-mesh shelf trays, and 9 fine-mesh trays).”inserts” with a fine mesh surface. Trays with a fine mesh and trays for marshmallow are made of flexible plastic, similar to nylon, and the trays with a coarse mesh (they actually are the main shelves in the dryer) are made of transparent hard plastic.The kit includes a collectible magnet from Kitfort, I have it like this:

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS.1) Power output of 600-700 W. It is not weak, although not very powerful (many 1000W dryers are available on the market, and not professional ones). But it dries much better than cheap round dryers that cost in the region of 2500-3500.2) Way of airflow-horizontal. Big-diameter built-in fan on the rear panel provides even air distribution throughout the chamber, as well as convection heater.

3) Temperature can be set from 35 degrees to 70 degrees in 5 degree increments. regulated by buttons on the panel on the top lid outside. At 35 degrees to dry vegetables, in my opinion, does not dare sense, it is too low a temperature and everything will be dried for weeks. Herbs can be dried at this temperature. A marshmallow I dry at a temperature of 55-60 degrees (if raw marshmallow, then 50-55 degrees, and if cooked fruit mass, then 65-70 degrees).4) Width 34cm, height 41.5cm, depth 47cm. Weight according to the manual 8 kg.5) Has overheat protection. Very useful feature!6) Protection class from electric shock: 17) Timer to 19.5 hours in 30 minute increments8) Tray size: 30 x 32 cm. I really like the fact that the trays are square.9) Number of levels: 9Producer: China.

CONTROL.It’s very simple. Plug in, set time and temperature, when the drying is finished, unplug it (or leave it on). Everything.When the timer finishes the dryer, there are 20 loud beeping signals that can be heard throughout the house and are even heard on the second floor of our house, and the “End” indicator lights up on the display.The control panel looks like this:

the buttons are not touch, but mechanical, just covered with a plastic sticker to avoid dirt and water. This makes it very easy to clean.So, loaded products for drying on the trays, turn on the dryer to the network, press the button with an icon “On / Off”, after which lit up the display, which by default shows the average timer time of 10 hours:

and using the arrow buttons to set the temperature, and then press the “Timer” button, and also using the arrow buttons to set the drying time. That’s it.

THE WORKING PROCESS.The dryer can run for 72 hours without interruption! Further the manufacturer recommends to make a break at least for 1 hour and you can continue drying again.But I’ve noticed that food dries out better when you take breaks. I also feel safer because I don’t have to work hard and for long periods of time without a break. I do so: when drying marshmallows put a timer for 5-6 hours, when the drier dries this time, then give her a rest for a couple of hours, opening the door, during this time the marshmallow cools and from this cooling, too, not bad dried. And further by eye I define how much time to dry further. This is how my dryer dries eggplants in 4 hours:

PLUSES of technology:1) Horizontal drying.This is the most important advantage, because it is a huge convenience, saving time and effort.2) A square shape. You have to agree, because a square cabinet is more roomy than a round one, right?3) 27 trays of three kinds, of which as much as 9 for marshmallow (liquid)! This is a huge plus, because cheap dryers in the 2.5-3 thousand price range only come with one tray. I call it “nothing” because marshmallow is eaten very quickly and the fruit mass dries up badly, shrinking in volume, and if one pallet you have will dry for 2 days on a low-powered dryer and at the exit you get a squeezed out only one roll of marshmallow, the size of a finger, which is not enough even to drink tea, it does not justify itself.4) The removable door. Doesn’t get caught on anything, easy to wash and put back.5) Pastila.A substitute for candy, and it also cleans your bowels. By starting to make marshmallows, I have now almost stopped buying candy for the family, and even my craving for candy at tea time has gone away. Marshmallow at tea time. It is very cool and “not stuffed”, it does NOT taste like dried fruit (for some reason some people think so), because I mix different fruits and berries. When having tea, you eat a few marshmallows and feel full pretty quickly, because the marshmallow swells up inside (with tea) and dampens the appetite. All of the above-is a very strong argument to have a Kitforth dryer in the house. I’ll add more arguments: in a marshmallow you can not add sugar at all, and add honey, or even just fruit without sugar, because they are already sweet, especially grapes. I can make a very “elegant” marshmallow flavor, for example, mixing pumpkin-citrus-carrot-pineapple, or kiwi-apple-banana

dogwood-apple-pear, apricot-citrus; peach; pumpkin-carrot-citrus, hawthorn-apple-plum-terry, kiwi-blackcurrant-apple:

Lemon marshmallow with lime and banana or apple,

Sometimes I add mint to marshmallows. Tried making marshmallows from expired baby food in the dryer: turned out bombastic and tender! Also plum marshmallow (it’s called currant). Soft as marmalade, strawberry-fantastic, as well as raspberry (especially if filtered from the seeds)! Due to the possibility of setting different temperatures during drying, the manufacturer recommends drying at first on a low temperature, and in the middle of the drying process to make the temperature higher. The marshmallow trays are made of flexible plastic, and it’s very easy to remove the dried marshmallow sheet. Again, I want to praise the “square shape” of the tray, because you get a solid sheet of marshmallow, which is very easy to cut with scissors into even beautiful strips:

Now I always have a small jar on my dining room table, and instead of candy in it. my marshmallow:

You drink tea with marshmallow every day, and you wouldn’t even think that it’s all made from substandard fruit, which people usually throw out or bury in their garden. Thanks to my dryer, I have saved a huge amount of money on candies, chocolates and all sorts of cookies, and I have already “repaid” the cost of the dryer for half a season!

MINUSES of the technique.They are minor to me.1) Ribbed sides (collect dust and difficult to clean). But if you do not run and wipe with a rag on time, or even cover or put in storage for the winter (although in winter we get out of the cellar that have begun to rotten fruit and can again make a fresh marshmallow), it is not a problem.2) The plastic case can be damaged by a hard blow (and on the other hand, because of the plastic case, the dryer has a light weight).3) And if you are a fan of store-bought sweets, then take a look at the dryer 3.

CONCLUSION.I would like to recommend to every woman in the kitchen to have such a technique, who has his own garden with a large harvest. And just if you are not a supporter of store-bought sweets, stuffed with all sorts of chemicals, pay attention to the dryer. In addition to drying fruits, vegetables, mushrooms and greens in the dryer can dry fish (for example, dried salted fish, which is too “wet”), sausage raw or cooked-smoked, well, and occasionally make pastry.If you want to have such a dryer, but are stopped by its cost (in fact usually only because of this average housewives refuse to buy such equipment and take a cheap “round” dryer, which then often stands dead weight), then read more section “PLUSES” of my review, watch my video, attached to this review and buy it without doubts. You will not be sorry.
