What do the indicators on dishwashers mean??
Panel placement depends on the type of dishwasher. If it is a built-in model, the keys and indicators are located on the end of the door. Since the front part of the built-in automatic dishwasher is hinged, there is no need to place the control system on the front of the door.
The free-standing machines are the complete element of an interior, therefore the control panel is located on a facade. Buttons and indicators can be signed, but often they are foreign names, which can not be understood without a manual. It is more convenient when the keys are marked with symbols: pot, snowflake, star. Then the user can intuitively understand the meanings of the buttons.
The variety of symbols depends on the brand of the machine (Ikea, Ariston, Siemens). And also on the number of functions of the model.
Let’s look at the most popular brands of dishwashers.
Bosch” dishwashers are the most popular on the Russian market. Manufacturers have created a wide range of models, a large variety of modes and introduce new technologies. Let’s look at the deciphering of the most common symbols (follow the numbering on the picture).
Start and Reset keys on the panel will help to start the washing cycle or perform a reset.
In addition, the dishwasher controls are equipped with operating indicators. They tell the user about a particular program. Let’s understand how to understand the meaning of the lights on the Bosch panel.
In dishwashers with a display the washing modes are also equipped with lights. If they’re on, the program is running.
There is also a time indicator on the floor and on the display. In the first case, the numbers are displayed on the floor, which indicate the time until the end of the program. Latest models have “Beam on Floor” function. Instead of an audible signal of the end of the cycle, the machine displays a beam.
Why is the light blinking?
It happens that the lights on the dishwasher start flashing, notifying the user of a violation in the program. If the “faucet” indicator and the “End” icon are flashing, there are problems with the water supply. The reason:
Ariston dishwashers are easier to operate. The designations on their panel are clear and easy for the user to remember.
There may also be such icons as shown in the picture:
To determine precisely the value of all characters on the panel of your model Siemens, Hansa, “Electrolux” will help the manual.
Icons are mostly the same as on the Bosch dishwasher.
Standard programs are marked with the familiar symbols: pot, glasses, Eco:
In some models, the rinse aid indicator looks like this:
You can keep track of the compartment contents and add rinse aid at the right time. You do not have to wait for it to run out.
How to determine whether the Hansa dishwasher is out of special salt? Most place a special light on the control panel, marked with arrows. The star next to it is the rinse aid. If the machine has a display, the asterisk may illuminate directly on the display. When this light starts flashing or glowing, it indicates that you need to replenish the salt in the special compartment. Depending on the model, the location of the lights may be:
Other icons, indicators and buttons on the example of Hansa ZIM 428 ELH model.
The standard programs look like this:
Carefully select the washing program so as not to spoil the dishes.
Icons on the container for special agents
Each washing machine is equipped with a special tray, in which the means for washing are placed. For the process to go well and correctly, it is necessary to know what exactly and in what compartment is poured (poured).
Each container in the tray has a symbolic image that will help you determine where to pour the liquid powder and dry powder:
- letter “A”, figure 1 or I. recommended for dry detergent only, the detergent in this compartment is used for prewash;
- The letter “B”, the number 2 or II. this is where you put the powder for the main wash. Here is also a container for bleach, stain remover or protective agent. If there is no such tank, the detergent is poured directly into the powder compartment;
- The star or flower is the place for softeners and conditioners.
Each compartment in the container is marked with a corresponding symbol
Symbols on the machine of other brands
Dishwashers from other brands have about 70% of the same signs in the same interpretation as on Bosch units, but some differences are worth knowing:
- Ariston: the icon of a pan with three lines. intensive washing, symbols of a pan with two racks. standard mode;
- Hansa: 3-in-1. washing normal dirty dishes without dried-on food on them, black pan with lid. intensive washing of particularly dirty dishes with dried-on food residue;
- Siemens: cup and glass with arrows to the right. extra quick wash at 45 degrees, 30 minutes.
Electrolux dishwashers have a smaller number of programs and their designation is typical for Ariston and Bosch. information is available in the dishwasher’s instructions, which describe each operating mode in detail.
Indicators on Bosch dishwasher are lit
Bosch dishwasher warnings. lights or blinking of indicators: tap or brush, signals a problem/failure occurred in the dishwasher:
Bosch dishwasher faucet light on. The water supply to the dishwasher stops, you may hear a humming noise.
- Check to see if the water supply to the apartment is turned off or if the water pressure has dropped. at least 10 liters per minute is required.
- You forgot to open the water tap on the machine.
- The water supply hose is bent or kinked.
- The filter in the supply hose is clogged. the water must be turned off and the machine cleaned.
- Dishwasher filters inside the dishwasher are clogged.
- Drain hose is clogged or dishes are blocking the drain pump cover.
Dishwasher light flashes on Bosch dishwasher. Try turning the dishwasher off with the on/off button and then on again after a few minutes.
If the light flashes again, there is a technical problem and you need to call a service technician.
When this indicator lights up. the machine is washing, but sometimes it blinks:
Electrolux ESF9423LMW Options
The dishwasher’s specifications, which are listed in the technical documentation, allow you to determine how suitable it is for your particular environment. Such models, as Electrolux ESF9423LMW, is used for maintenance of the family of 2-3 people under the condition of their loading once a day.
For more people it is necessary either to buy a full-size machine or to use the narrow machine several times a day.
Main technical characteristics
The Electrolux ESF9423LMW has the typical size and weight of a narrow-format machine.
Two-button control panel with a selector switch for selecting programs. Minimum number of control elements significantly reduces the number of cases of electronic unit failure.
The indication panel shows the settings of the current mode and the stages of the washing process. Also visible on the panel are warnings about missing or low salt and rinse aid
Insignificant noise level allows you to run the dishwasher at night without the risk of waking people up. No buzzer, instead of the end of operation light. The tank is made of high-quality stainless steel. But the plastic of the body is soft and flexible enough, which gives the feeling of unreliability.
In terms of width, the machine fits into the “narrow” standard of 45 cm. But the depth is slightly greater than the typical 60 cm, which must be remembered when trying to use it as a recessed appliance in the kitchen furniture
Description of modes of operation
The ESF9423LMW incorporates Electrolux AirDry technology. Its essence is to automatically open the door after finishing work at a distance of 10 cm along the upper edge. This creates a natural circulation of air, which dehumidifies the dishes and the walls of the machine by drier room air.
This technology prevents streaking on your dishes and also prevents bacterial growth, which is common in warm and humid environments. AirDry option can be switched on or off by the user. The Electrolux ESF9423LMW has 5 operating modes that contain the cycles most commonly used by consumers.
Temperature range is from 50 to 70 degrees Celsius. This makes it possible to wash almost any kind of dishes, including those made of soft plastic and thin glass
As a rule, owners of the described appliances use the “economy” and “regular” modes. The manufacturer recommends “fast” washing for lightly soiled dishes, and “intensive”. for stubborn and stubborn stains. For this model, the function of delayed start-up time of 3 hours is implemented.
A special salt which binds minerals is used to decrease water hardness. The model ESF9423LMW has 10 levels of softener introduction for water, which are set depending on the degree of hardness (° C).
In Russia this parameter corresponds to GOST 31865-2012. It can be measured with special strips or find out by contacting the company that carries out the water supply.
The salt level, which needs to be set depending on the hardness:
- °Ж = [0.1,4);
- °Ж = [1,4.3,6);
- °Ж = [3,6.5,0);
- °Ж = [5,0.6,4);
- °Ж = [6,4.7,8);
- °Ж = [7,8.10,0);
- °Ж = [10,0.12,8);
- °Ж = [12,8.15,0);
- °Ж = [15,0.16,6);
- °Ж = [16,6.18,0).
Default level set At level no salt feed. If °F 18,0, it is necessary to install additional softening filters in front of the machine.
Water and electricity consumption
The ESF9423LMW has a fairly good energy efficiency class. “A”, which, when using the “economy” mode together with the AirDry function can significantly reduce energy consumption.
Claimed washing and drying class “A” is confirmed not only by tests of independent laboratories, but also by consumer feedback
Electrolux Dishwasher Internal Light Assembly Replacement 5304521592
The information on power and water consumption given in the table above refers to “Economy” mode.
For other programs, these values are as follows:
- fast: 0.7 kWh, 8 l;
- conventional: 1.0-1.2 kWh, 14-15 L;
- intensive: 1.1-1.3 kWh, 13-14 liters;
- Rinsing: 0.1 kWh, 4 liters.
The power rating of 1.95 kW makes it possible to integrate the dishwasher into the main kitchen power grid. If it will be decided to allocate a separate line to the switchboard, it will be necessary to secure it with a circuit breaker for 10 or 13 amps.
The dishwasher does not require a separate power line. The main thing is to make sure that the type of power supply and the voltage in the network meet the requirements specified on the plate of the product
Features of equipment and internal design
The ESF9423LMW comes standard with two baskets, the top basket being for the lighter, less dirty dishes. Arrange items so that they are not in contact with each other, are firmly seated and have adequate drainage.
In the bottom basket put the most soiled dishes, as well as massive objects, such as pots, pans, lids or trays. When arranging the dishes, make sure that they do not block the flow of water.
How to repair the dishwasher
We will not consider all cases of defects of the washing machine. there can be dozens of them. Let’s break down how to independently eliminate such typical malfunctions:
The drain or fill line is clogged
This breakdown can be attributed to system breakdowns, since it is typical not only for Electrolux machines.
The extent to which the nozzles, hoses and filters fill up with debris depends on the quality of the water supply. The worse the water is, the faster the clogs will appear. If you have too many minerals in your system, they quickly build up on the inside of the filter and cause it to clog prematurely.
In this case, it is not difficult to repair the machine, even if you decide to act with your own hands.
Important! To avoid a recurrence of this malfunction, remember to remove the filter from time to time and clean it from plaque.
If the water is too hard, treat the machine as carefully as possible: check all the elements of the water intake system. filters, sockets and the hose. Do it this way:
- close the water supply to the system by closing the water supply tap;
- Unscrew the water intake hose together with the filter from the tee valve and from the body of the machine;
- Take out the small flow filter (located where the hose is connected to the body of the appliance);
Often users, along with the installation of the dishwasher, provide a small flow-through filter, located on the side of the faucet. If it is installed, then the clogs will only be in the filter attached to the body of the PMM.
Important! If you use different water softeners, in this case they are ineffective, as they protect only internal details, and have nothing to do with filters and hoses.
If we talk about the garbage filter, as well as the hose and drain pipe. their clogs are more frequent. Doctors recommend cleaning the machine at least twice a month, or every 4 weeks if it is used heavily. The preventive measures described in the user manual of your model of automatic dishwasher can help prevent clogging.
Choosing the right dishwasher
Modern dishwashers are economical, small and multifunctional. They wash not only dishes and cutlery, but also clean pots, pans, crystal, removable parts of kitchen appliances. After washing in a dishwasher, dishes will shine with cleanliness and there will be no trace of grease and pathogens.
The main rules of choice
Choosing a dishwasher is not an easy task, especially for first-time buyers. A variety of models, manufacturers, functions can make even the most experienced buyer’s head spin. But, if you have everything sorted out before you even get to the store, choosing a dishwasher will turn into a real pleasure.
Dishwasher sizes and dimensions
- Full-size. able to hold up to 12-16 sets of dishes at a time, and having the biggest dimensions. 60x60x85 cm.
- Narrow-sized. designed for 6-9 sets and characterized by a width of only 45 cm. Narrow dishwashers, as a rule, are designed for small families of 2-4 people, and are in the average price category.
- Compact. allow washing up to 4-5 sets of dishes at once. Their size is only 45x55x45 cm, so they can fit even in a miniature kitchen, although the efficiency of their sink and inferior to the previous two types.
Type of installation
All dishwashers can be divided into just two types, recessed and free-standing. Built-in units are further divided into fully-built and partially-built.
How to install your Electrolux fully integrated dishwasher
- Semi-built models have an open panel, unlike fully-built models, in which the panel is on top of the door.
- With full dishwashers, the top remains open. This makes it possible to perfectly fit the appliances into the interior, covering them with a countertop on top. They are also designed to conceal the door behind a decorative panel made of the same materials as the rest of the kitchen furniture.
- Freestanding machines, having the same technical characteristics as a built-in washer, cost much less, and certain models even allow for further installation.
Washing, drying and energy classes
Dishwashers, like other kitchen appliances, are divided into classes, which determine the quality of the sink, the degree of drying and the amount of electricity consumed. The higher these ratings, the better the dishwasher will wash and dry your dishes, saving energy at the same time.
According to European standards, the performance of dishwashers have 7 classes, denoted by the Latin letters A-G.
- Class A. impeccable cleanliness and thorough drying of dishes. Class A dishwashers are the most economical. The energy consumption of appliances in this class is only 0.8 to 1.05 kW/h. They also save up to 30% less energy than other kitchen appliances of a lower energy class. In one complete washing cycle, up to 15 liters of water are consumed, as opposed to washing the same amount of dishes by hand, which would require at least 60 liters.
- Class B. presence of minor stains or stains on dishes. B-class dishwashers are also considered economical, because they use only moderate amounts of electricity, ranging from 1.06 to 1.09 kWh.
- Class C. presence of not washed fragments and water droplets. Models in this class have the highest power consumption. from 1.1 to 1.49 kW/h. But these machines are extremely rare to find in any manufacturer’s range.
A set of functions, present in almost all dishwashers:
- Pre-washing. rinsing food with a cold water jet;
- Washing. standard wash with special detergent;
- Rinse. rinsing of washed dishes with water;
- Drying. drying with hot air.
expensive machines have even more advanced functions: intensive washing at high temperature, a program for washing fragile items at low temperatures, a fast wash for rinsing “fresh” dishes, a half-load mode.
Technology of drying after washing the dishes may also vary:
- Condensation. evaporates moisture from the surface of the washed dishes using the heat generated by the machine itself. This type of drying is the most economical but not practical because it takes time. In addition, after drying, drips of water can leave stains on the dishes.
- Turbo-drying. found in expensive models. In this case, the dishes are blown by the fan and dry much faster, and no water marks are left on their surface.
You can connect your dishwasher to the water supply in two ways: cold or hot water. As a rule, all dishwashers must be connected to cold water, which is heated in the built-in tank during the washing process. Connecting directly to hot water will save energy, but it can take a little longer to wash dishes on low temperature settings.
Aqua-Stop feature automatically stops the valve in the water hose. If the system trips, extra water goes down the drain. Not all models are equipped with this safety system, so it is worth checking whether it is present in the dishwasher, as each manufacturer calls it differently.
Dishwashers have more than one filter. Their regular cleaning will ensure excellent washing quality without streaks and stains. Some models are equipped with self-cleaning filters, which grind up the rest of the products, flushing them down the drain. This will prevent clogging of the drainage system, which will increase the life of the machine. In addition, the self-cleaning function saves water by repeatedly using it after filtering, and also reduces energy consumption for heating water.
During the long test run, we tried to load the machine as much as possible, using it for everyday washing of various dishes, kitchen utensils and cutlery. However, we have already formed a list of standard dishwasher tests, the results of which we bring to your attention.
Eco-mode and “faux-dirt”
Not so long ago we developed and tested on several models an ideal artificial dishwasher contaminant. The well-chosen combination of proteins, fats and carbohydrates makes it moderately sticky, well and reliably drying and extremely difficult to wash. This is a mixture of the cheapest ketchup and inexpensive industrial mayonnaise (starch is often added to such varieties, which only improves the properties we need. as opposed to the taste). So this time, too, we generously sprinkled this amazing mixture on our dishes.
Did this, as you can see in the photo, evenly, but deliberately sloppy. For greater effect, the loaded and open dishwasher stood with the dishes for twenty-four hours so as not to make it easy to test.
We understand that owners usually do rinse dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, and very dirty dishes are washed immediately. But our task is different: to explore the machine’s capabilities under harsh conditions.
Note that the design of the upper basket allows you to place not only the usual cutlery. spoons, forks and knives, but also large kitchen spatulas, stirrers and ladles.
For this test, we chose Eco Mode with the ExtraPower option, which was the best way to go: there was not even the slightest trace of dirt on the contents of the three baskets.
All of the cutlery in the overhead garbage can washed down to a squeaky finish, as they say.
The quality of drying was also satisfying: almost all dishes were completely dry, a couple of drops of condensation remained only on the cutlery in the upper basket.
The power consumption for this test was 1.473 kWh, while the amount of water used was exactly 14 liters.
Thirty-minute washer with Glass Care mode
Several fine glass glasses were stained with lipstick and red wine, simulating the aftermath of a fun party. As in the previous tests, the dishes were left to dry for a day.
Our glasses were too big, so we placed them on their sides. For unstable soiling on fragile dishes, we have set a 30-minute program with GlassCare mode. Even in this position, the large glasses were perfectly washed.
A wash, no traces of dirt or drips.
Power consumption was 0.616 kWh, and 11.3 L of water was used.
We stained two glass jars, a three-liter and a two-liter, with ketchup from the inside and left them in the dishwasher for a day to dry out.
For this test, we considered the one-hour program without additional options to be the most suitable.
After the allotted time, we opened the dishwasher and made sure that there was no trace of dried ketchup left, the jars were completely clean.
The electricity consumption for this test was 0.740 kWh, which consumed 9.7 liters of water.
Intensive wash (2:40) with EP mode
For the test of the intensive washing program, we used a ceramic dish which was used to bake greasy meat with sour cream sauce. To enhance the effect, the empty mold is held in the hot oven for about 15 minutes to allow the remains to stick more thoroughly.
It goes without saying that no one washes dishes in such a state, they should be rinsed, or, better yet, soaked. But we’re testing the dishwasher under the worst conditions, aren’t we??
So the mold without preparation went to the bottom garbage can. To wash it, we turned on the program for 2 hours and 40 minutes, supplementing it with the ExtraPower mode.
We were pleasantly surprised by the result: as a rule, in this dough, there are remnants of burnt on the edges of the mold, which we remove by hand with a sponge. Until now, we considered the softening of the soiling to be an excellent result, but it seems that the criteria for evaluation have to be reconsidered.
The ceramic mold washed perfectly, there was no need for manual intervention at all after the program was finished. This is an impressive result, which makes us change our mind about the previous tests.
The efficiency of the SatelliteClean rotor bottom sprinkler has proven to be superior to conventional rotors. Indeed, stubborn dirt is washed much better with it.
In this test, the dishwasher consumed 12.9 liters of water and 1.191 kWh.
Dishwasher light is flashing
The first and most important rule: If you get worried about something on the dishwasher control panel, have a look in the manual. it may well be that it means one of the standard modes of the machine.
If any indicator on the panel is always on, it is most likely normal and indicates the current status: for example, the brush icon lights up when you start the wash, and goes off after it ends.
It’s quite another matter when something starts flashing and the washing mode is disturbed: it may mean a breakdown of some component of the washer-dryer.
But in any case these are only general considerations. for an exact description of the behavior of the indicators you need to look in the manual.
First, check whether the childproof mode is on, which blocks all buttons except the machine off. The blinking of the button can also be caused by a failure of the control module: try to reset the washing program by unplugging the machine for 5-10 minutes.
If it didn’t help, it means that something is broken in SMPMA: most likely the control board, but problems with the door, heater, motor, programmer, sensors can also cause such an effect. Only an experienced technician with the necessary diagnostic equipment can pinpoint the cause.
