Operating a vehicle with gas equipment
What is gas condensate?? How often does it have to be drained? At a temperature difference, many chemicals give sediment, including propane gas. This gas is used in your car in two aggregate states: liquefied (stored in a cylinder) and directly in gas (after the reducer). In the NGV system, this precipitate is called “gas condensate”. Given the low quality of gas sold in Russia, you really need to drain the gas condensate. There is no strict periodicity in it, but once in 30 000 km it is desirable to organize drainage from the cylinder and once in 15 000 km. from the reducer. This liquid clogs filters and is very harmful for gas combustion components, particularly gas nozzles and regulator. By the way, the presence of condensate is easy to determine. if every time you fill a cylinder with less gas, it means that some part of the volume is occupied by condensate. In our practice, there have been cases where from a 100 liter cylinder drained up to 10 liters of condensate. Heard of such a method of flushing the engine as flushing with diesel fuel. What’s the benefit and point?? And whether there is no risk for the engine with HBO at the same time? It has nothing to do with HBO: when you install HBO, the engine remains unchanged, and cleaning it with diesel fuel is as dangerous for HBO as for gasoline fuel system. And in general now there are much more modern and efficient ways to flush the engine, although the question of whether or not to wash the engine does not have a clear answer, the opinions of experts differ. Why can a car with HBO smoke?? Smoke when starting after four hours of parking, but after warming up the car drives normally, showing no signs of malfunction. Is it critical or should I just change the oil?? Many people have the mistaken belief that all malfunctions of the car are associated with a HBO system. First you need to be clear and check if the car is fuming with just gasoline. If it turns out that the car keeps smoking on gasoline, it means that the GTB has absolutely nothing to do with it. And then you need to go to the service station. to check the engine comprehensively. The system is not a hindrance Can you install gas on a car with a gasoline direct injection system (for example, FSI)? Gas equipment for direct injection engines exists, but it is very expensive. The cheapest system suitable for these engines costs about 40,000 If you add the cost of the cylinder and installation fees, you end up with a total of about 50,000. 55,000 This equipment will pay off very long. In addition, these systems are not widespread enough, and in Russia there are few professionals who can install and configure them properly. But, like everything new, these systems will eventually get better and cheaper. So it was with the systems of the fourth generation some time ago. It’s not the “head” Some automakers (e.g., Renault) make special reinforced cylinder heads for “gas” cars. Why? To be more precise, we are not talking about reinforced cylinder heads, but exactly about the exhaust valves, which are made of more heat-resistant material. The combustion time and temperature of gas is longer than that of gasoline. Respectively, gas takes longer to burn in the chamber and overheats valves because of it. Engine components made of aluminum are not designed for gas combustion. But there are special systems on sale, which are additionally installed on the engine. Their purpose is lubrication and cooling of valves.
Why is there a “splash” of water in the tank??
You can hear it in winter. You should know that it is not water but butane component of LPG. At the slightest frost, butane stops converting into a vapor fraction. That is what is “splashing” as a liquid inside.
Butane component of LPG in a gas cylinder
During the warm season there is no such problem: the propane-butane mixture is used almost all. To avoid that in a freezing weather it is recommended to ask the fuelling company about the passport for used LPG, when filling up the tank. This document should contain information that the mixture has a minimum of 80 percent propane, which passes from liquid to vapor in the cold. If you use this kind of gasoline, you shouldn’t have any problems.
What is the risk of untimely service
For a LPG system to work properly, regular maintenance of the system should be performed, which includes changing filters and drainage of condensate. In case of 2nd generation GTB, it is recommended to drain the gas condensate once a year (usually in spring and autumn). If you have installed a 4-generation HBO, allowed to carry out maintenance once every couple of years, or every 20,000 km of road.
Not draining can lead to condensate accumulation in the cylinder:
- Loss of engine power and jerking of the whole car when working on gas;
- The car starts to stall and throttle;
- Unstable operation of the engine as a whole
Instructions for draining the condensate
If you neglect the procedure to drain the condensate, each time in the cylinder will hold less gas, and it will not be enough for a long time. Besides, pouring a normal amount of gas mixture into the cylinder, where condensate has already accumulated, you risk filling it up to the brim, not leaving the required 15% of the emptiness for the gas cushion. It is extremely dangerous and threatens to burst a cylinder or blow up at the slightest additional heat or jolting.
To prevent undesirable consequences, let’s work out together how to properly clean a domestic gas cylinder from condensation.
So, the first thing to do is to use or drain the rest of the gas.
When releasing the gas, be careful: the pressure can be strong, and the cylinder. will significantly cool. Turn the tube away from you and preferably with gloves on
If the stove or other equipment already does not work well from this cylinder, puffs, you can simply deflate the gas outside. To do this, remove the pressure regulator and slowly open the valve. Never do it near a house, fire, wiring, sparks, or in a confined space: a meadow or field where there are no people and the wind will quickly dispel the gas is ideal.
Violation of this simple rule can lead to poisoning, fire or explosion. do not risk your health and those around you. Keep in mind that when large amounts of propane-butane changes from liquid to gaseous, the remaining liquid cools down and the cylinder becomes cold.
When you stop making a hissing sound when you open the faucet, you can tell that the gas is out. That is, it remained only in a gaseous and not liquid state, exactly the same volume as in the cylinder, so the pressure is not higher than atmospheric pressure, and it does not come out. Most likely, even at this stage there will be something splashing in the can. this is the condensate.
The pressure reducer mounted after the valve stabilizes and lowers the gas pressure coming out of the cylinder to the working pressure. It is not possible to drain condensate with it
To get rid of the condensate, do this:
- Choose a place away from housing and fire hazards, preferably not a seeded field or the bank of a body of water. A wasteland, wild meadow is ideal. Do not pour condensate directly near the gas station where you intend to fill the cylinder.
- If the reducer is still in place, remove it.
- It is desirable to prepare a glass or metal jar that can be tightly closed together with the drained substance.
- Open the faucet and find the pipe under it where the reducer was attached.
- Turn the cylinder upside down, with the branch pipe facing away from you, and direct it into the prepared container. You can put a hose over it for convenience.
- If the fluid is not leaking, or drained not all, tilt and rub the cylinder so that the last milliliters flow out.
- Be sure to close the valve, so that the cylinder is not filled with air and moisture.
It is desirable that after this procedure in a cylinder nothing spills. Sometimes one sees the recommendation to fry empty cans in the sun with the valves open in order to remove both the condensate and water that may have entered the can. But this procedure can be unsafe, especially if you forget to open the valve, and an extra few milliliters of condensate will not play a role, so it is better not to dry cylinders without the need.
From excessive pressure, including. caused by heating in the sun, the cylinder can burst, sometimes. even explode, it is dangerous
If used properly, there is no water in it, so you will not need to figure out how to properly drain a domestic gas cylinder, and drying is not required.
Dismantling of GTB. sequence of actions
To decide how to remove the gas equipment from a car, it is necessary to determine whether the dismantling will be carried out completely or partially. If the first option is clear enough. the car will be returned to its original state. This is not the case with the second one.
If you plan to keep the equipment for further use, it should be deactivated. At the same time it is necessary to remove the cylinder, plug the line and insert the plug in the control connector. In fact, it is enough to disconnect power from the unit, and remove the fuse from the rubber fitting on the plus wire of the battery. The main thing is that in case of sale, the price of the car will not go down.
To carry out the dismantling of all equipment, you will need to lift the car on an elevator or drive it to the pit, and then it becomes clear how to remove the gas cylinder from the car. The general sequence of operation is as follows:
- It is necessary to bleed gas completely;
- The electrics are disconnected;
- The lines are disconnected, the cylinder is removed, and with it the reducer, electronic sensors, control unit, nozzles are dismantled and the inlet manifold holes are plugged;
- change of pipes in the cooling system;
- the throat is plugged.
This knowledge can be useful to independently remove HBO from the car. However, you should not do it yourself all the same. Times have changed, and it is better not to mess with modern equipment.
- replace the element;
- Put a container under the drain plug (the drain is at the bottom of the evaporator);
- unscrew cap (using hexagon socket 6 mm);
- To sieve liquid (often the amount does not exceed 30-50 grams);
But is it necessary to drain the condensate from Lovato 4-generation HBO, the answer is unequivocal. no. The filter is responsible for cleanliness of reducer-evaporator here. If it is extremely dirty, gas will not get into the reducer and the car will stall or switch to gasoline mode unauthorized.
Why can explode a gas cylinder in a car?
At the end of work, we close valves on cylinders. Disconnect a tube. Unscrew the multi valve from the cylinder, and we see that the cylinder is completely without gas.
No one was hurt or poisoned during the work. There was at least a minimum odor of gas in the booth.
Each refill of your gas cylinder lasts for a shorter and shorter period of time? Or maybe you noticed the deterioration of the flame. the burner puffs and goes out from time to time? The reason for this may be the condensate that has accumulated in the cylinder after the many refuelings. If you drain it and pump high-quality gas at a specialized filling station, the gas appliances from the cylinder will work no worse than from the central pipeline: stable, smoothly and without soot.
In this article we will find out what is gas condensate, where does it come from in a cylinder, whether it is necessary to get rid of it, and, most importantly, how to drain condensate from a domestic gas cylinder yourself.
Installing a gas cylinder in the country. rules and recommendations
The wise decision would be to entrust the installation to a specialist. If you can not, you can do the job yourself. For a quality installation you must:
- Use new gaskets, clamps. Threaded connections should be tightened thoroughly.
- Check for possible leaks. I need to put a little dishwashing detergent on a foamy sponge, lather it up, and then work on all the joints. If you can see no soap bubbles appearing. the tightness is OK.
- Place the container at a distance of 1 meter or more from the stove and heater if it is in the room.
Drain the condensate from the reducer and cylinder
Hi all!I heard recently that I need to drain the condensate from the reducer and the gas cylinder.I installed gasoline 3 years ago and drove 40 thousand miles on it, but neither the installers nor the service did not tell me about this procedure.Can anyone shed some light on this issue??Equipment: AEB Pride Alphatronic ECU, gearbox Alaska AT09, injectors HANA, vapor phase filter with sump, multivalve Tomasseto, Faro thermoplastic trunk.

I have a feeling the reducer is clogged but I don’t want to mess with it.There is a small drop in pressure when going uphill (as if either not enough or comes out) on a level surface.I’m thinking of pouring VD 40 into the reducer for a day through the gas inlet.Do you think it helps??
Similar reducer, for 6 years and 200 thousand miles has not got into it. Just the filter
At Euro 4 condensate flies out under pressure.
in fact, i don’t want to look in itafter five years, i put a repair kit on the reducer and that’s why i took it apart and washed everything insidecylinder is in its 7th yeari didn’t take it offand i didn’t clean it.
No condensation in the cylinder on cars with Gbo. There’s a gas intake tube at the bottom.) This is not grandmas on the street in an iron box cylinder.)))))
If you put the cylinder in time for testing, you would not have to worry about condensation and dirt
Every 2 years it is supposed to test the gas cylinder.
Who will pressurize it??))))) it’s like the verification papers for gasoline. give me 300 rubles, you get a stamp right away))))) Why should I give my uncle 300 rubles for a piece of paper?! It’s the same with cylinders. they get money for air, and then they sit around and check the weather on Mars((((
I don’t know about you, but at our company cylinders are pressure tested with air, then you drive to the installer and they put the system together, check the system for leaks and only then stamp the documents. The entire process have repeatedly observed and observe myself, soon most likely I will have to participate.
т.е. you do everything in front of the client?How much money do you charge??
I work in the field, the test 50l cylinder standard 400-500r do not remember exactly because the financial issue testers do not touch
let’s go again))))) I’m not pestering you, BUT! Usually nobody does anything in front of the customer!Verification is usually done by visual inspection of the cylinder and conclude that it can be operated or not that’s all the inspection is done Another question in the state structure where cylinders in old houses near the stove are at grandmas they change the empty cylinder probably something checks and then not sure they pour the condensate and take a visual look and go away!
the cylinder is inspected for mechanical damage (dents, blowholes, cavities) is installed in the installation and 36 kg of air is pressed into it, before that it is washed with hot water, if after the pressure test it does not burst, no blowholes appear, the cylinder is punched with the next date of testing and the stamp with a record in the documents. Household cylinders are inspected for physical damage, if the test date has approached, the valve/valve is removed and washed with hot water in the installation for the pressure test again inspection is installed back valve/valve (if desired, the customer can replace the valve on the valves or vice versa) fill with gas and check for leaks, if there is a leak (by cone / membrane / the valve does not press) gas is drained and twisted or repaired valve / valve, the passport is placed on the next test date and stamped.
Gazelle clean the throttle, drain the condensate from the gas reducer.
all this is fine! If the client wants. with him this procedure will be done?
the station is a hazardous facility and unfortunately, outsiders are not allowed in there. I foresee the next comment saying that you are not doing anything.
absolutely right))))) if visually the cylinder is not rotten and neither slanted or crooked, nothing gets done not because there is no equipment, but just lazy i’m not saying you or anyone else is bad everyone wants to eat! so it’s up to each one to decide! there are just some people who feel more comfortable with verification with a stamp, and some people are pressed for money ))))) that’s all)))))
The territory of the station is a dangerous place, unfortunately, outsiders are not allowed there. Anticipate the next comment in the style of “you do not do anything there.
and yes))))) and i may be wrong too! and I do not trust their words, not out of the goodness of their lives so ignorance leads to conjecture you can make a video t.е. A person watches in real time how the verification is done and is not in the territory.
I don’t argue that if you want to test it, you will be tested, if you just need a stamp, everything is solved without any problems, I have never said in any of my posts that everything is so honest that no dud will pass through
