How the device works

Gas ceramic infrared heater works on the following principle:

  • In the mixing chamber, the gas and air mix.
  • An air-gas mixture burns through holes in the ceramic plates and acts as a heater for the plates.
  • Ceramic plates heated to 900°C emit infrared heat.

Building a heater from a pipe

This makeshift design is also called a heat-gas gun. It generates significantly more heat than previous heaters, and absorbs more energy resource. Also, such structures are often equipped with a chimney, which makes them bulky and difficult to carry.

To self-assemble the heater, you need to assemble the following material:

  • Three meter pipes of different diameters (two of 8 cm and one of 18 cm);
  • steel plates, with which the fastening will be carried out;
  • sheet metal;
  • gas burner with a piezo igniter;
  • axial ventilator.

You will also need a variety of tools: drill, welder, tape measure, level, angle grinder, metal scissors. The pipes can be replaced by cylinders or fire extinguishers of suitable diameters. An angle grinder will be needed to cut the bottom and top as well as to shorten the workpieces.

Two holes of different diameters are drilled into the pipe of 18 cm in diameter: 1 cm and 8 cm. Drill them opposite each other.

From the pipe with a diameter of 8 cm cut off a piece of 30 cm, which will be the combustion chamber. Fasteners are welded to this pipe and a 1 cm diameter hole is drilled in it. Then this pipe is inserted into the first pipe.

You must cut the end piece out of a sheet of metal. It will close the gap between the heater body and the combustion chamber. A combustion chamber is welded to the body, and to the 8 cm diameter hole a pipe for hot air outlet. After that a plug is welded on. After making sure that the gas burner is tightly attached to the combustion chamber, you can slip the hose through the centimeter holes.

At the back of the device there must be a fan and on the top of it a smoke evacuator. For the heater to stand firmly on the surface it is necessary to weld the feet. How to choose the right one for heating your home

Suitable type of gas heater depends on the room, frequency of use and availability of gas.

As with traditional heating systems, you must first determine the thermal capacity of the device.

How to make a sturdy model on the basis of a collet cylinder

The main components for making high-powered gas burners are industrial valves. They can be new, but for a homemade device it is sufficient to use a used one if there is no gas leakage. They are designed to work together with a 50-liter propane gas cylinder, which has an angle valve and reducer.

The design of this burner is shown in Fig. 1. As a basis the valve of an oxygen cylinder BK-74 is taken.To the outlet end a handle nipple, turned on a lathe, is installed, to the grooved part of which a hose from the cylinder is connected. On the part of the valve with tapered thread K3/4˝. to connect it to a gas cylinder, screw on the cap with a prepared hole with a thread for a nozzle. You can use an off-the-shelf version of a blowtorch or gas stove.

The nozzle is made of a 1/4˝ piece of steel pipe 100 mm long and is welded to the cap on two ∅5 mm pieces of wire. Leave a distance of 15 mm between the cap and the nozzle to allow air to enter the combustion zone. Adjust the nozzle position by bending the wire holders to achieve a centered flame position.

Sequence of actions to ignite the burner:

  • Open the cylinder valve;
  • Hold a lighted match to the nozzle and slowly open the burner valve;
  • Control the ignition of gas;
  • Adjust the flame with the burner valve

Self-made gas burner of this design has one disadvantage, associated with the peculiarities of valve location. The gas flow is in the opposite direction to the normal position. Gland seals are subject to constant gas pressure( wt.ч. when the valve is closed), so you must constantly monitor the tightness of the gaskets.

Burner converted from acetylene gas cutter

If you have an acetylene torch with a faulty oxygen supply tap, don’t throw it away. It is also suitable for making a burner (Fig. 2.). The mixing chamber requires modification, the contents of which should be removed to reduce the weight. We need to remove the oxygen barrel and the valve. The formed hole should be soldered with hard solder. Connect a hose coming from a gas cylinder pressure reducer to a fitting with a left-hand thread of M16 × 1.5.

Screw-on nut on the mixing chamber to secure homemade tip bent at 45 °, so it was easier to work with a torch. Screw a flange with a nozzle welded to the threads of the tip.

One of the options for such a burner is to use a cap with M22 × 1.5 thread. The construction of the nozzle here is similar to the nozzle of the above-described burner. Homemade gas burner is ready to work.

Gas Mini Burner

Mini gas burners are more suitable for working with small parts. The basis of the mini torch is a needle for pumping balls. A cut must be made in it, just beyond the middle of the needle.Some needles already have a similar hole, which greatly speeds up the process. Next, you need to take a syringe needle, and bend it about 45 degrees in the middle.

The sharpened end of the syringe needle is best sharpened so that it is straight. Then insert it into the ball needle in such a way that one end goes through the hole, and the other end protrudes from the large needle by several mm. The resulting mini construction should be secured with a solder. After that, the bases of the two needles should be attached to the drip heads. The clamps of the dropper regulators should be moved as close to the needles as possible. In the resulting burner, they will act as regulators of gas and air supply. They also need to be bonded together, and this is best done with a heat gun. It only remains to connect source of compressed gas to the finished device, and the burner is ready for use. Such a homemade gas burner can heat objects up to 1000 degrees. Work with it carefully, respecting the safety rules.
