For New Year holidays I bought another version of the family favorite game Memori. Not only is it fun, it is also educational. My son can’t tear himself away. The problem was that the cards were made of very thin and unstable cardboard, they were easy to bend and crumple, and soon the edges would be frayed as well.

That’s how I got the idea for the lamination. And I also got some feedback. Many are engaged in improving, so to speak, children’s cards, games, manuals, and other such things. That’s just with the density of the film did not help reviews, and the article-directions, which described the density and rigidity of the final result and what is mainly used.

And since I decided to do lamination and give cards a long life, I chose a film of 125 microns. The pack contains 100 pieces of 10×7 cm (this film comes in totally different sizes, also in different weights). The number indicated is full, t.е. These are ready-made 100 packs, for which I do not need a pair.

The end result is that the cards are virtually unbendable and certainly will not bend enough to leave a crease. Tight enough and perfectly straight.

The film is designed for hot lamination and in my case an iron was used, t.к. I don’t see the point of having a laminator at home for occasional, rather infrequent use.

The iron is on minimum temperature, t.е. 1. I did everything on the floor, on which I put a small double layer of cotton material.

The “bag” is already sealed on one side. It needs to open and put inside what needs to be laminated, and well centered. In the collage, bottom right photo, you can see the border. this is where the iron has already passed joins the unsealed area. The difference in brightness is clearly visible!

Then this bag has to be placed on the place where you are going to iron it. Be sure to. start with the sealed side and go from there to the opposite edge to avoid bubbles, near-documentation and unevenness. The iron is carried out slowly two times on each side, so the card is not bent in an arc. No need to cover with anything on top. Ironed directly onto the film. The need for additional ironing around all edges in my case was not. Everything is 100% airtight. The film is originally more matte and opaque, but in the final result everything falls into place:

I decided to make my daughter some exercise books and the question arose as to how to prolong the life of these cards without crumpling, bending or tearing them? Tape the cards together. not a very attractive idea. And then I decided to laminate the whole thing. Turns out it’s not a problem at all. All we’re going to need. is the film and the iron!

For starters I bought laminating film. You can find it in stores like everything for the office or office equipment and stationery. And here I was stunned ! For me it’s expensive. I flicked my eyes and got an A6-sized pack. at 170. It’s more reasonable.

This film comes not only in different sizes but also in different densities, from 60 to 250 microns. I got 80 microns. Accordingly, the higher the density, the more expensive the film. The film is double, glued on one side. At first it’s matte, but after heating it becomes transparent and glossy.

Now here’s the fun part. We will laminate it with an iron. Let’s heat our machine on medium temperature. I give it a 2.

While the iron is getting the right temperature, I open the film and put the card in the center. I glued the picture to the cardboard for better density.

Now gently run the iron over the foil. Do not worry, the iron does not stick to the film, everything irons out great. We start at the place where the film is glued and gradually go to the other end. I press lightly with the iron to make it stick better. No need to keep it on for too long. Just a few seconds are all it takes. The paper is slightly curled, but that’s okay. I turn the card over and run the iron again. Now everything is straight. There shouldn’t be any bubbles. If there are any spots. You have to use an iron to get them out. But in general, they almost don’t appear.

Now for the final step. I glue the edges together. Sometimes the edges come apart, especially when laminating cardboard. That’s why I additionally go over the projecting edge of the film with the edge of the iron.

The cards are ready! Beautiful, hard, smooth, and shiny. No worse than those laminated on special equipment.

I also decided to experiment and laminate just paper without cardboard. I cut out the picture from the waste paper and glued it. It’s not bad either. Pretty thick card came out. Of course, if you compare it to a pension certificate, for example, my card is twice as soft. Approximately the density of a page in the passport (photo page). But if you need more density, you can either buy thicker film, or try laminating with two layers of film.

High price. If you need a couple or a dozen sheets, I haven’t seen such small packs. Only one hundred pieces. I took a small sheet size. А6. I am so far satisfied with this size. But the large formats will not be able to laminate. And it’s expensive to buy A4. Although they can be cut to any size you want.
