Lamination with an iron at home

The very process of laminating paper is to glue the plastic with a special film. Thus, the paper is in a kind of cover that protects the surface of the document from the external environment. Several significant benefits of lamination come from this:

  • The plastic cover makes the document more visible, laminated documents do not get lost.
  • The document does not wear out;
  • The paper stays clean, stain-free;
  • Signatures, seals and the names of parties remain clearly visible throughout the life of the card;

The laminating process also has a number of disadvantages, which, however, are easily tolerated:

Lamination is also a prerequisite for a number of documents, but there are no strict regulations relating to this process. Almost all documents can be laminated, with a few exceptions. For example, a document should not be laminated before all signatures have been affixed to it and a notary has authenticated it.

Is it possible to laminate a document at home?

In the presence of clear instructions document can be laminated at home, and, answering the most popular question, no, the resulting paper will not differ from its counterpart made by a specialist. There are several options for laminating papers at home, some of them involve the use of outside equipment and materials, others are extremely easy to perform and do not require significant cost. Let’s look at a few of the most popular ways.

Some more ways of lamination

How to laminate paper correctly?

There are two main types of lamination. cold and hot. Processes are very different in technology, but each of them has its own advantages.

from the name itself it is clear. for successful lamination it is necessary to apply a high temperature which heats up the adhesive backing. The thicker the lamination film, the thicker it needs to be heated.

Laminate with Iron | How to laminate even without a laminator

It is best to use a home iron, which is in almost every apartment. but be very careful, because the thinnest films can not withstand the strong heat and melt. The optimum film thickness is between 70 and 80 microns.

Laminating film for hot (!) gluing.

The process is simple. put the necessary document or photo in the “” of the laminating film, and then, tightly pressing down the iron and expelling air bubbles, iron the paper from the closed part of the “. The main thing is not to overheat the iron, because then the film will wrinkle and bubble.

less chance of irregularities and “chewing”;

Here you will not need temperature. accuracy and a little time will allow you to create a reliable and durable protection for important papers. Originally the film for cold lamination was used only in printing houses: the document was placed in the same “” and then put through the press rollers.

At home, you can get the same effect in two ways:

Use cold lamination film and a construction roll. The paper is placed in the “” and then you start rolling it with the roller, starting with the backing. Be sure to watch for bubbles in the process, and the rolling itself is better to perform on a hard surface. The disadvantage of the method. physical force must be used to make the film stick well.

Use a self-adhesive tape. Laminating is a little faster, but also requires precision. This film is not available in “s” but in individual sheets so you have to treat each side of the document separately. On the inner side of the film there is an adhesive layer that is covered by a protective film. no special effort is needed, the material is easily fixed.

Both hot and cold lamination with your own hands will cost you less than a similar service in a salon. Having learned simply and quickly to protect the paper with the film coating you can do even large volumes of work directly at home without using special equipment like a laminator.

Preparing the laminator for use

Make sure that the device is ready to work.

How to charge the laminator

If your laminator model runs on battery power, it is important to charge it before laminating. Connect the power cord first to the equipment and only then to the socket.

The charging process is indicated by a blinking LED.

Refer to! As a standard, while charging the indicator light is red, and when the charging is finished the color of the indicator changes to green.

There may be a different indication, so we recommend that you check this information in the user manual for clarification.

How to turn the equipment on and prepare the machine for operation

Before inserting paper into the machine, it is important to check that the film is available in the film compartment. It usually opens by sliding the latch on the case. If you are unable to open the compartment, it is likely that the device has not yet cooled down. That is why the latch is locked by the device for your safety.

Attention! We strongly recommend that you use the original device provided for charging. If you use a different charging cable, the battery may fail after a while.

Before laminating, you must press the power button and wait a few minutes. Some models have an indicator light that tells the owner when the device is warmed up and ready to use.

Materials for laminating

Before proceeding to the lamination procedure at home, we should consider the necessary materials, which should be stocked before the work.

TIP! The materials depend on the laminating process that will be chosen.

One of the easiest ways is to laminate with an ordinary paper file. This method is the most economical and requires only an iron, a sheet of paper and the file itself.

Laminating film

You can use a special film for the laminator. It is usually sold in packages of 100, is not expensive and can be found on the shelves of almost any hardware or stationery store.

TIP! The films differ in thickness, which is measured in microns. The range is quite large: from 77 to 200 microns, where 75 is the thinnest and 200 the thickest film.

Hard to tell which film to choose. A lot of people like the “thinner” ones. Look at the papers that are already covered with this protection. It helps to know what kind of layer you want to get.

The film itself is a kind of “”, the sides of which can be connected either vertically or horizontally. There is a thin layer of glue inside, when heated, it glues the film to the paper.

Lamirel lamination sheets. review

Who about what, but me about homemade board games:) Found this film for laminating. The sheets are clear, thick, almost unbendable, the edges are rounded. Any printed cards in these look like store-bought cards, last longer, and are easy to shuffle.

You can laminate homemade cards and teaching aids

Lamirel film is one of the most inexpensive lamination films.

I ordered in M.video, keep in mind that I had to wait about a week until the order was delivered to the nearest store.

A pack of cards 100 pieces costs M.video 90 p. They come in different sizes, I have small ones like playing cards. 9.5 cm by 6.5 cm. The film is 125 microns thick.

A pack of film with A4 sheets costs about 300.

And laminate one page in the copy center costs 100 p

Inside the tutu are double sheets with rounded edges, glued at the base.

For playing cards this size is very handy, the edges are already rounded cut nothing.

I laminate at home with a regular iron. I iron over a piece of paper with an iron. Slowly move it up from the bottom, no bubbles, the lamination is of very good quality.

Advised to iron at minimum temperature, but it depends on the thickness of the cards. I have a thickness of 125 microns, I iron at high temperature, laminates quickly, no bubbles, the film does not change shape, the cards come out flat.

In 2 packs of lamirelle spoiled cards I have not had!

At first the sheets of film have a cloudy surface, after gluing them become transparent.

These cards can be used to laminate:

Printed games, the ones that need smooth cards for quick shuffle.

Games where the shirt got dirty or failed to print out

Card games with transparent elements (color code, visual, iq bingo, many, many)

Even your favorite purchased games this procedure will prolong their life.

So in the game chudoponi cards were saved from jam. Cards with ruined shirts cleaned, covered with new shirts, and laminated. Now you can play even in the kitchen!

The film is thick enough, the cards turn out hard.

However, the thickness and weight also increase by an order of magnitude. For comparison: laminated lamirel 75 card game chudopony and 60 card game readenium, laminated with thin thermal film.

Different types of lamination on the example of readenium and turbocount games

With the help of this film, it was easy to make an educational game “Color Code” with my own hands. In communities, the game pieces are usually glued to transparent wrapping plastic. But believe me, with the laminating foils the whole game was done in an hour, which is several times faster and not at all worse. The most difficult thing is to cut the edge evenly, so that the rectangular pieces turned out to be squares:) For this I needed a cutting board, a metal ruler and a box cutter.

I rounded the edges with scissors. I have a grass trimmer for edges from aliexpress, but it can not cut this film.

I laminated the cards with an iron, some of them have defects in lamination. Because the photo paper is too thick, there is a big difference between the thickness of the figures and the “bare” laminate. But I do not have thin photo paper, and the figures would be printed faintly on ordinary paper.

The cards are thick, transparent, almost unbendable. It is easy to play. By the way, the “color code” interested even the youngest. At three years old, a child easily folds green level tasks, so they overdid it with the “4” marking. Although, it is worth noting that mine play it infrequently, more like a team game, and here little excitement, no competitive moment. But the tasks are interesting, perhaps if you finish the second set of cards and put puzzles on speed, as in the game “triangle and company” or “speed caps”, the game would go with more success.

Easy to use, laminates without bubbles, the card is difficult to spoil

Cards come in different sizes. If sized right, you don’t have to trim it yourself

Thick and high quality. Protects paper manuals from external influences

Description Office Kit PLP70100/125 film. Synopsis:

Greetings All.

For New Year holidays I bought another version of the family favorite game Memori. Not only is it fun, it is also educational. My son can’t tear himself away. The problem was that the cards were made of very thin and unstable cardboard, they were easy to bend and crumple, and soon the edges would be frayed as well.

That’s how I got the idea for the lamination. And I also got some feedback. Many are engaged in improving, so to speak, children’s cards, games, manuals, and other such things. That’s just with the density of the film did not help reviews, and the article-directions, which described the density and rigidity of the final result and what is mainly used.

And since I decided to do lamination and give cards a long life, I chose a film of 125 microns. The pack contains 100 pieces of 10×7 cm (this film comes in totally different sizes, also in different weights). The number indicated is full, t.е. These are ready-made 100 packs, for which I do not need a pair.

The end result is that the cards are virtually unbendable and certainly will not bend enough to leave a crease. Tight enough and perfectly straight.

The film is designed for hot lamination and in my case an iron was used, t.к. I don’t see the point of having a laminator at home for occasional, rather infrequent use.

The iron is on minimum temperature, t.е. 1. I did everything on the floor, on which I put a small double layer of cotton material.

The “bag” is already sealed on one side. It needs to open and put inside what needs to be laminated, and well centered. In the collage, bottom right photo, you can see the border. this is where the iron has already passed joins the unsealed area. The difference in brightness is clearly visible!

Then this bag has to be placed on the place where you are going to iron it. Be sure to. start with the sealed side and go from there to the opposite edge to avoid bubbles, near-documentation and unevenness. The iron is carried out slowly two times on each side, so the card is not bent in an arc. No need to cover with anything on top. Ironed directly onto the film. The need for additional ironing around all edges in my case was not. Everything is 100% airtight. The film is originally more matte and opaque, but in the final result everything falls into place:

laminate, home, iron

I liked the film, although the process is rather monotonous. I laminated 50 cards one at a time.

It’s great for home use! And the image becomes even more bright and saturated with it! Now my favorite game is well protected. It is not afraid of water, not afraid of fading and erasing the image, no shabby and crumpled cards!

Thank you for your attention and have a nice day!

OFFICE KIT laminating film A6. Testimonial

I decided to make my daughter some exercise books and the question arose as to how to prolong the life of these cards without crumpling, bending or tearing them? Tape the cards together. not a very attractive idea. And then I decided to laminate the whole thing. Turns out it’s not a problem at all. All we’re going to need. is the film and the iron!

For starters I bought laminating film. You can find it in stores like everything for the office or office equipment and stationery. And here I was stunned ! For me it’s expensive. I flicked my eyes and got an A6-sized pack. at 170. It’s more reasonable.

This film comes not only in different sizes but also in different densities, from 60 to 250 microns. I got 80 microns. Accordingly, the higher the density, the more expensive the film. The film is double, glued on one side. At first it’s matte, but after heating it becomes transparent and glossy.

Now here’s the fun part. We will laminate it with an iron. Let’s heat our machine on medium temperature. I give it a 2.

While the iron is getting the right temperature, I open the film and put the card in the center. I glued the picture to the cardboard for better density.

Now gently run the iron over the foil. Do not worry, the iron does not stick to the film, everything irons out great. We start at the place where the film is glued and gradually go to the other end. I press lightly with the iron to make it stick better. No need to keep it on for too long. Just a few seconds are all it takes. The paper is slightly curled, but that’s okay. I turn the card over and run the iron again. Now everything is straight. There shouldn’t be any bubbles. If there are any spots. You have to use an iron to get them out. But in general, they almost don’t appear.

Now for the final step. I glue the edges together. Sometimes the edges come apart, especially when laminating cardboard. That’s why I additionally go over the projecting edge of the film with the edge of the iron.

The cards are ready! Beautiful, hard, smooth, and shiny. No worse than those laminated on special equipment.

I also decided to experiment and laminate just paper without cardboard. I cut out the picture from the waste paper and glued it. It’s not bad either. Pretty thick card came out. Of course, if you compare it to a pension certificate, for example, my card is twice as soft. Approximately the density of a page in the passport (photo page). But if you need more density, you can either buy thicker film, or try laminating with two layers of film.

High price. If you need a couple or a dozen sheets, I haven’t seen such small packs. Only one hundred pieces. I took a small sheet size. А6. I am so far satisfied with this size. But the large formats will not be able to laminate. And it’s expensive to buy A4. Although they can be cut to any size you want.
