If the previous option does not suit you, and you want something more complicated, then consider the independent creation of a fan from computer disks:

You should find or buy a motor with a moving part of it (for example, a protruding iron rod). Since we are making a fan from disks, having such a rod will be the best option. Also motors from an old VCR or player are perfect, because they spinning discs and tapes is what you need for the spinning propeller in our fan.
You should not use a motor from a washing machine or even a past fan. they are extremely strong. Because of the self-assembly, it will be very flimsy. A strong motor will scatter fragments of the blades in the room in the first seconds and will fly off the base.

An ordinary sleeve from a roll of toilet paper can be used as the center that holds the entire structure together:

Making a fan with a computer cooler
To make a fan at home and not to strain at all, we found on the net this way. In the entire manufacturing process takes no more than 20 minutes, you can use an old cooler or just buy a new one in a store, the price of them now a penny.
First we start to prepare the cooler, it has two wires: red and black. With each wire we strip 10 mm of insulation, there is even a tool for stripping. The size of the cooler does not play a special role, of course it is better if it is of a larger size, the wind flow will eventually get stronger.

Aspects of designing a fan

The initial step to start designing and constructing is to find a motor. If you have unnecessary tools, toys, and kitchen appliances in the house, you can donate them. Use can be motors from a drill, an electric screwdriver, screwdriver, mixer, baby car, grass trimmer, electric razor. - Step back from the marked attachment points and cut a hole for the fan with a knife or jigsaw;

- To ensure proper placement on the table, glue or screw to the stand legs (either four on the corners or two solid pieces on opposite sides), their height must be greater than the thickness of the USB fan;
- Cut off the loose end of the USB cable, in its place you will find four wires, two of them you will need for power, usually red and black, and the other two must be cut so that they do not interfere; Fig. 2: From the USB take the red and black wire
- Cut off the insulation from the edges of the red and black wire, about 10 to 20 mm;
- If the output of the cooler is left as a terminal, insert the ends from the USB wire into it, otherwise the wires from the fan must be stripped, as well as the cord; Fig. 3: Strip the cooler wires
- Cut the motor power leads and remove 10 to 20 mm of edge insulation from them, connect to the leads of the power cord, solder and insulate.
The homemade USB fan is ready to use as a cooling pad for your notebook. Please note that it is better to hide the splice with electrical tape or glue, so that the wires won’t hang around with the vibration. The USB fan itself can be powered from the connector of the device, as well as from a socket through an adapter.
Idea. Using a Cooler
To assemble a USB fan from a cooler takes no more than 15 minutes. First you need to prepare the cooler. From the device comes out two wires. black and red, and sometimes yellow, even more rarely blue. Yellow and blue are not useful to us. Strip insulation for 10 mm and put the prepared element aside.
Then we need to prepare the USB wire. We cut off one half of it and at the place of the cut we peel off the insulation with a sharp knife, a penknife will do just fine. Under it you will see four wires, two of which are necessary: red and black. We should also strip them, but it is better to cut and insulate the other two (usually the green and white ones).
Now, as you understand, it is necessary to connect in pairs the prepared contacts, according to the color marking of the wires: red to red, black to black with the help of a twist. After that you should carefully insulate the cable connections with electrical tape or heat shrink and make the stand. As for the stand, it is a matter of your imagination. Someone has a good use of wire, others are very interesting to cut a landing slot in a cardboard box.
In the end, the homemade mini fan is connected to your computer or charger unit, and you can enjoy the work of your own electrical appliance.

A fan based on a plastic bottle
What our craftsmen can’t make out of plastic bottles! It is time to say that they also make a very good fan. It may not air out your whole room, but for someone who has to work at a computer, it will definitely help.
We offer two variants of creating such a fan.
Option #1 is a model made of rigid plastic
- A 1.5 liter plastic bottle;
- a motor from an old toy;
- small switch;
- A Duracell battery;
- a candle;
- hammer and nail;
- hot melt gun.
So, we take an ordinary 1.5 liter plastic bottle with a cork. At the level of the label’s mowing line, cut off its top part. This is the one we will need for making the propeller. We divide the surface of the plastic blank into six parts.
Try to mark it so that we have equal sectors: the quality of the future device depends on it.
Cut the blade according to the markings until it almost reaches the neck. We unbend the blades of the future propeller and cut off every second one of them. We are left with a blank with three blades equidistant from each other. Round the edges of each blade. We do it accurately.
Now we need a small candle. Light it. Heat each blade on it at the base to turn it in the right direction for us. All blades must be turned in the same direction. We remove the lid from the workpiece and make a hole in the very center of it with a nail and hammer.
Put a plug on the stem of a small motor. Such motors can stay from old children’s toys. As a rule, it is easy to get them. Fix the cork with glue.
Now you need to make the base, which will hold the motor. For this purpose, we take, for example, a piece of Styrofoam. Fix a rectangle on it, which can also be cut from Styrofoam packaging.
On the upper surface of this rectangle will be fixed our motor, to which the propeller is attached. To do this, you need to make a recess in the foam, corresponding to the parameters of the motor.

To fix the elements of the product use hot melt glue. If it is not available, you can use other adhesives. It is important that the attachment itself be as secure as possible.
On the Styrofoam base is mounted a small switch and the power adapter, the role of which is played by a rectangular battery “Duracell”. Assemble the simple circuit, trying to make everything as neatly as possible.
We only have to screw the propeller to the cap, fixed on the motor. Our fan is ready to go.
The stand made of foam plastic is probably too light to give the device the necessary stability. After all, with a sufficient span of blades, it can turn out quite powerful. Therefore, it is desirable to make the base of the model heavier.
Option #2 soft polymer product
Prepare in advance everything that we will need in the course of the work:
- Two SevenUp lemonade bottles;
- 12 V DC motor;
- seven thick beverage tubes;
- socket for the power supply;
- the power supply itself;
- scissors and a utility knife;
- hot glue gun;
- plastic ties;
- wire cutter;
- soldering iron;
- duct tape;
- CD disk.
So, there is another option for constructing a homemade fan from a plastic bottle. Let’s take a bottle with smaller capacity, for example from SevenUp lemonade.
The algorithm for cutting the future propeller blades is the same as in the previous version. The plastic of this bottle is much softer, so it is possible to give a desired inclination to future blades without heating them.
A hole should be made in the center of the plug, using an awl or a nail heated over a fire for this purpose. The 12 V DC electric motor, on the shaft of which the propeller will be attached, can be taken from old toys or a household unnecessary hair dryer.
Fixing the cover on the shaft is done with hot melt glue. Screw the light propeller to the cap at once.
The most interesting part is the construction of the base. It is not only stable, but also attractive. To build it you need seven thick beverage tubes. It is necessary to glue them together with superglue. It turns out rather strong and pretty stand.
For the base take the top of a larger plastic bottle than the one we made the propeller from. We push the tube rack into the neck of the blank, about the middle of its length. Fix the stand in this position with superglue applied to the neck of the workpiece.
Now you can install the motor on the stand, securing it with thermal adhesive. The fact that the stand itself consists of hollow tubes helps hide the wires nicely. We just pass them through the center tube. This is how the wires end up inside the base of the device.
To further strengthen the construction, you should use plastic ties, which are glued with hot melt to the rack on the sides of the motor, so that the tie rod lock is tightened over the motor itself, ensuring its immobility. Remove the excess end of the mount with wire cutters.
Holes are cut into the plastic surface of the bottle, which serves as the base of the construction, for the power supply connector and the switch. You’d better do it with a utility knife.

Connect the connector for the power supply and the switch. Wires should be soldered and insulated. Fix the switch and connector to the plastic with hot melt glue.
To weight the base and make it more stable, let’s make a bottom out of the CD disk.
To do this, we lubricate the edges of the plastic workpiece with hot melt adhesive and press the disk against it.
Now we connect power through the connector. In this capacity, you can use the power supply for LED strips, which are sold in electrical stores. Well, this handy thing is ready to work.

Test run and balance
We make a hole in the center of the hub (with an awl), slip it onto the motor axis, and test the switching on. Certainly, before assembly it is necessary to coordinate an angle of attack of blades with a direction of rotation of the motor. Otherwise the fan will blow in the opposite direction. If there is vibration, the propeller can easily be balanced by simply tweaking the blades. After making sure that the propeller rotates evenly and blows where you want it, we glue the motor to the stand. Do not spare the glue!
Connecting the USB cord to the power wires of the motor. Of course, it’s better to do it with a soldering iron, but given the paltry power. you can get by with a simple twist. The main thing is not to forget to isolate the connection with electrical tape or adhesive tape.
Bladeless fan with my own hands
And here’s a slightly unconventional use of a free cooler (but you can get by with an electric motor). it’s a bladeless fan. A modern, interesting, if you have the right skills. no less effective. solution, which is sure to catch the eye. The thing turns out quite unusual, spectacular.

The most important thing in the bladeless models is, of course, their appearance. Therefore, if you make such a device yourself, you should try to think through the frame in the smallest detail. Uneven edges, rough edges. all this will spoil the impression.
The casing of the fan without blades is almost entirely a working area. Don’t think that this is some kind of cosmic technology.
