Ironing

Every housewife knows how much proper ironing means in the process of taking care of things. the wrong mode can lead to burnt fabrics, holes and other troubles. That’s why you have to learn to read the symbols.

Symbol Meaning
Ironer says you can iron things in any mode
A crossed out iron means the prohibition of using the appliance
Iron with one point on the inside. iron at a low temperature (up to 110 degrees)
Iron with two dots. ironing at medium temperatures (up to 150C) through the gauze or with a steam humidifier
Three-point iron. ironing at a high temperature (up to 200°C) and the ability to steam
See the crossed-out steam icon below the iron? That’s right, steaming is forbidden

Why Some Things Can’t Be Machine Washed

Most delicate fabrics lose their strength and elasticity when wet. The threads bunch up, and sometimes simply tear from any mechanical action. Such things are either cleaned by hand or given to a dry cleaner. No automatic machine can wash clothes as gently as caring hands of the mistress.

And what about the special modes of manual and delicate washing, many ask. They can really come in handy if you need to wash a bulky item. For example, silk linens or woolen Plaid. But if the thing is small (a dress, scarf, underwear), then it is right not to risk and wash it by hand in a soapy solution. Using a brush, rubbing and wringing cloths in this case is also not recommended.

By the way, the above gentle modes from conventional machine washing differ only in the fact that they use a lower water temperature (30-40 degrees), the spin is disabled and an additional rinse is included.

Interpreting the symbols on the garment labels

To make it easier to use the information below, the commonly used temperature designation (t°) is used, the temperature is given in Celsius everywhere. Some icons are used in national labeling systems (USA, China).

Washing: by machine or by hand

The symbol for any wash is a basin of water. If there is one and not crossed out with two lines, the item can be washed. How to?

Let’s look at the basin more closely:

  • There may be one or two bars under the basin. One requires gentle washing and a gentle spin, two requires the most careful washing in plenty of water and a fast spin. Stripes are sometimes combined with high water temperature, this means that you need to set a minimum time and slow drum speed.
  • The number inside the basin is the temperature of the wash water. Usually specified from 30 degrees. delicate wash, to 95 degrees. boiling.
  • Another way to indicate the temperature of the water. points. The more there is, the hotter the water is allowed. One to six dots are used.
  • Exclusively hand wash for clothes is indicated by hand in the basin, such thing can not be washed in the machine. Empty pelvis. sends boldly to the washing machine. Washing in the drum is sometimes indicated by the machine icon.

Tip The delicate wash and low water temperature icons also mean using mild detergent.

The circle marks the recommendation for professional dry cleaning. Decipher the letters and icons:

  • Empty circle. dry cleaning is allowed.
  • Crossed out. prohibited.
  • Inside letter “A” indicates cleaning with any solvent.
  • Inside the letter “P”. Hydrocarbon, ethylene chloride, monoflorotrichloromethane procedures are allowed. The extra horizontal dash below the circle means a gentler treatment with the same solvents.
  • Letter “F”. tetrachloroethylene and hydrocarbon are allowed. An extra line means gentle treatment with the same solvents.

Do not bother with dry cleaning signs unless the circle is crossed out. A service employee will figure out how to clean a delicate product.

Where the label is hiding?

At the time when the first industrial manufactories began to appear, the labels were born. Their purpose was to convey the name of the manufacturer to clothing buyers. Then caring merchants began to put signs on them to care for the clothes. And it’s a tradition that survives to this day. So on every item of clothing it is not difficult to find a label with recommendations for cleaning.

The label with the washing marks is located in different places on different items. For example, the label is in the seam at hip level for jeans, in the side seam of knitted sweatshirts and cardigans, and in the back of T-shirts, under the collar or in the side seam. over, even underwear has labels: their location on panties in the side seam, on bras on the left side, on the back strap. This proves once again that each garment needs specific care.

The label is made of special material that does not interfere with wear: it does not chafe or sting. And at the same time, this useful fabric insert will tell you at any time how to wash, iron and take other care of the garment. The only exceptions were for undershirts and onesies for the littlest ones. You will not find labels on these garments. The marks for washing are on special labels that you remove in preparation for wearing them for the first time.

Tip: Labels can usually be made of two kinds of fabric: a softer fabric and a stiffer fabric. If the label needs to be removed, remember: only those made of soft fabric are cut (they sometimes even have a shear open scissors sign on them). The stiff label is gently torn from the seam. If you cut it off, the remainder is sure to rub off.

Washing and Drying Symbols on Clothing Labels and How to Decipher Them (Table)

There are special labels with signs and symbols on all the clothes you put on and wear and other things. These symbols tell you how to properly wash, dry, iron, and clean items made of different fabrics so that you won’t ruin them later. What do these symbols mean and how to read and decipher them correctly will tell you in the table below.

Wash Can’t Clean: What Do Clothes Labels Say?

SALT-collage

Labels on clothing are sometimes like a multi-volume essay in an incomprehensible language, with designations in hieroglyphics and advice that we do not always follow. You’ll agree that on some things we don’t read the labels at all. and sometimes pay dearly for it Worn 10 times, comes out cheaper than a dress for five, worn only once. So it’s a shame to lose a great thing just because we threw it in the washing machine without reading the instructions.

In order not to suffer from the fact that a new brand sweater after washing became a few sizes smaller and now fits only a child, tell us how to read the label and use these rules.

Spinning and drying

Rules depend on the type of fabric. For example, silk loses its shape when automatically spinning, and cotton may shrink in the machine. The symbols on the label will help you remember the care instructions. The signs tells you how to spin dry and spin your clothes correctly.

Allowed to spin and dry in the washing machine. Such clothes will not harm the automatic spin, so you can not turn it off.

Cannot be wrung or machine dried. During washing, it is better to turn off the spin mode, and before drying you need to remove the excess water from things with your hands.

Can be dried. If this icon is shown on the label, then dry the item in the washer-dryer and do not worry that it will lose its attractiveness.

Do not tumble dry. To be used in conjunction with the “No washing allowed” sign.

Dry without a spin. Delicates could lose their shape, so remove them from the machine before spinning and leave to dry naturally, unmolded.
