But now the warm time of the year came and the house again became unbreezy. It turned out that everything stopped working, since the old Soviet norms do not promise ventilation above 5C. I liked the idea, but how to make a small series?

From the analysis of the operation of the first prototype it was decided to apply the following sensors to determine the modes of operation:

temperature/humidity sensor SHT30 or HTU21,

air quality sensor like ccs-811 or sgp40,

We decided to use a MOX air quality sensor, since the more advanced NDIRs are larger and more expensive. The chosen MOX sensor measures VOC and CO2 equivalents, we decided it was the best option. As in the dirty areas a lot of organics and also need to understand the level of CO2.

Although we understand that the best solution would be a NDIR sensor and VOC, but it is expensive and probably too early.

The operation of the device should be configured from a smartphone, as otherwise is not modern, so we add the development of software for smartphones and some interface for interaction. At the moment the program on the phone is made on Xamarin, this platform has admirers and critics. I have not really liked the Hamarin platform itself so far, but maybe it’s all about the intricacies of programming and not the Platform itself.

It is advised to make further steps in Flutter, as a modern, dynamic development and as multi-platform, as well as Xamarin development environment. As a result, we stopped at the nrf52 Nordic microcontroller, because it was more difficult to do on ESP32 because of the need to develop the server part, and the web interface didn’t suit us. The second reason for using the nrf52 was to develop another battery-powered Nordic device.

As a result, we discarded the prototype in this case, though it was beautiful and had an aesthetic front panel. Rejected in the first place because of the high cost of the donor, also the light sensor did not see the light. The prototype worked well and the cost of the donor was satisfactory. It was tested by testers.

We made a test batch through acquaintances and old customers and are now testing the market.

The bottleneck of the prototype was the enclosure which had to be made using the small batch plastic molding method. So far we decided to make the cases ourselves by casting in silicon.

When one does not have enough money for a good air conditioner, one can save oneself from heat with the help of an ordinary fan. It does not reduce the temperature in the room, but through the movement of air cools the body.

The fan must be placed correctly so that the air flow is focused directly on the person. It can be switched on both in no-movement mode and in rotation mode. The fan can be floor-standing or table-top. It is better to buy a floor fan, as it is convenient to place it anywhere, as well as at any height. The main thing is that the fan should not be installed near a desk with documents or other light objects that can even fly from the air flow.

Fan, the cost of which depends on its functionality, brand awareness, power model. Most fans have three speeds on, a rotary mode, night lighting, sometimes a temperature sensor. As for additional functions, it is very convenient when the fan can be adjusted with the remote control. The power of the air flow will depend on the size of the fan blades and the speed of their rotation. Firmly mounted fine mesh prevents the blades from striking. If there is a child in the house, you need to buy a model with a fine safety net, and the fan should be installed in a place inaccessible to the child. It must have a stable foot.

To be able to adjust the height and direction of air it is desirable to pick up the fan with the ability to fix it in the right position.

An ordinary room fan can cool the temperature of a room by several degrees if special measures are taken. If you put two plastic bottles of ice in front of the switched on fan, within half an hour the temperature will drop a couple of degrees.

It can also partially clean the air in the room. To do this, use a spray gun to spray water in front of the fan, but make sure that the moisture does not get on the motor in any way. Dust particles from the air will attach to water particles in a strong stream. Such measures would be useful in very hot weather and lack of moisture in the room. Expensive models may have a function of ionizing and humidifying the air, but their cost is almost the same as the air conditioner.

You can order fans online or buy them in an electronics store. On the network, most models are cheaper, but the fan will come disassembled and still need to be assembled.

If you fall asleep leaving the fan on in a room you haven’t cleaned in a while, your nostrils stand a good chance of attaching themselves to dust from the farthest corners of the dwelling. You don’t want to add the words “allergies” and “asthma” to your résumé?

It only seems that putting a fan close to the bed is a great idea. You’re more likely to sleep with your mouth open (nothing personal, a lot of people sleep that way). You may wake up to find your mouth unpleasantly dry and your throat uncomfortably scratchy. In addition, the fan creates not only a miraculous breeze, but, you’d be surprised, a disease-causing draught. It will be unpleasant to get muscle pain on your own initiative. So, fan, move over.

Let’s recollect how we got rid of the heat in those days when technological progress did not yet give us air conditioners and even fans. The first method is simple: use heavy curtains in light shades. They save from direct sunlight, respectively, the air is less heated. Curtains can be replaced by blinds or reflective window film.

The second way: Do not open the windows during the day. Try to ventilate rooms at night, when the air is coolest. With the windows and curtains closed it will stay that way. Of course, there is a drawback in the fact that during the day you will breathe stale air and live in semi-darkness. But it will be cool!

The third method is aimed not at protection from the heat, but to combat it: soak a sheet, duvet cover or other large piece of fabric in cold water and hang it in the room. As the water evaporates, it freshens the room. Instead of using a sheet, you can spray the curtains with a spray gun.

The same principle of evaporation will work if your home has an open aquarium or a lot of plants, carefully watered in the morning.

Open containers with cold water, or even better, with ice, placed in the corners, can reduce the temperature in the room by several degrees. And if you also direct the airflow from the fan, it is almost like an air conditioner.
